From BoLS. www.belloflostsouls.net/2012/04/40k-rumors-on-chaos-marines-and-6th.html6th Edition -Many of the general concepts from magic from Warhammer Fantasy are coming to Warhammer 40,000. -There will be "lore equivalents" -Psychic powers will be generated randomly by psykers (like fantasy) -Entirely new rules for constructing army lists (~Look at Fantasy for hints) -The FOC may be history Read it on DakkaDakka, thought I would post here. Yes these are just rumours but wondering how would it effect us Nids? I have no idea what "lore" is in Fantasy so would someone be able to explain? Not sure how the new vehicle rule as well would work for our benifit as well. Please explain guys. Love seeing new rumours even if they turn out to be fake, it's great to discusse and debate (in a friendly manner of course) about.

I've not got a copy of the latest version of Fantasy (I'll only bother to upgrade if my friends start playing fantasy) but I'm pretty sure that spells are not randomly picked- you have to pay different points for each one that you want according to their power and difficulty IIRC.
Lores are like different areas of study, different types of magic. you've got the lore of fire which is all fireballs and lava etc, and the lore of necromancy which is raising the dead and aging people to death in the blink of an eye, the lore of metal which is basically alchemy, etc.
In Fantasy there's eight general Lores that are available to all magic capable armies (the aforementioned lores of fire and metal being two of them), and lores that are specific to particular armies (Necromancy is used by the Vampire Counts, and possibly the Tomb Kings too, but I wouldn't know about that).

Lores in 8th fantasy have a default spell you can drop to if you one that you roll isn't desireable. They also have a attribute. For example for lore of vampires, when a lore spell is successfully cast the caster, or a friendly model in 12" inches, may immediatly regain a wound. That would be ok. What I hope they don't incorporate from Fantasy is, power/dispell pools with random amounts each turn, MISCASTS in the obscene form they take (especially considering the point and synergy value of our "casters" as compared to those in other armies), and random spell selection. The 8th edition magic system and its ridiculous swings of fortune basically contributed to killing fantasy for me.
While some aspects, like dispelling offering a means of protection, and an attribute would be ok, taking big chunks of fantasy magic would be bad for us

"all kinds of rumormongers are talking" ~ sounds like anyone could state anything.

Well of course salt needs to be taken but it's more of a "what can it mean" if true.
At least it's something. More likely Illithid is right and it's "anyone could state anything" but since they are stated, it's a rumour, true or not. In other words I am bored and seeing what these things could mean if true lol.

As long as they change up the pace, I'm tired of this meta.

As long as they change up the pace, I'm tired of this meta. Oh me too. I only played like 10 or so games in the last 2 years and I am sick and tired of "vehicle rush" or "rhino rush" spam on the last turn to win the game. If 6th edition is like this still, then I will be quitting gaming, but still continue collecting and painting.

So what would you guys and gals prefer? A FOC or a % based?

If FOC is gone, thats great, but then if they switch to something like in fantasy, where the number of options in each slot you can take is based on points, that might not be so great.

My concern is that losing the FOC is such a huge change, we really don't know what effect it will have. One of the restrictions on armies is they can only have 3 units of elites (or heavy); without that we don't know what kind of balance issues may suddenly arise.
The interesting bit, however, he didn't post:
The rumor that vehicles will now have an additional stat of Hull Points. You lose a Hull point from each Shaken result, making it much easier to glance a vehicle to death.
That will help us a lot.

I'm all for lumping psychic powers into one 'psychic phase' similar to fantasy battles magic phase, having them spread all over the various phases, and even player turns is pretty haphazard.
In contrast I'd prefer for it to be less rather than more similar to the fantasy magic phase which I find is either too random or too one sided. A psychic phase before movement wherein you determine which powers are available for you to use in the coming phases would be pretty cool though.
Removing the FoC could go either way depending on how they set up the new system; something which promotes unit variety would be ideal but it could just as easily result in even spammier lists.
