Last run with my GSC before putting it down for the foreseeable future; im so far at 100% losses for practice games and 84% win rate in tournaments (5/6 wins and counting).
Truth be told I was sold off gsc already until the change in cp and changes on broodswarm. Broodswarm encourages the alphastrike playstyle I do best with playing gsc, and Ambush is a mid-score secondary that we can at least secure 7-8 on. With big changes coming to Necrons and CWE, I felt confident enough in the CWE/Harleys matchup, and relative confidence in the Necron matchup, that I wanted to tech for Nids and CK/IK primarily. The byproduct of these armies is to hopefully curtail Imperial AOC, and the elite and melee focus of Chaos AOC (+ invuls) I felt there was unlikely I couldn't handle them with ap-3 Abbies and Heavy Mining Weapons. Drills are switchable with Cutters, but the Biophagus let's me test this 18A exploding 6s, and at 18A it's a lot more likely that I'll roll at least 1x6; thereby increasing my consistency for Drills to get results closer to Cutter counterparts and hurt the matchups where Cutters are less ideal(whereas Cutters either overkill or are inefficient due to 2W or 1W only).
Quick maths:
18A, hitting 2+, 15H, count 1 explodes for 16H and 2 MW
16H, 16Sv, 4++ into 8, with 2MW for 10D (but expecting 9 with 6MW).
18A, 16H, wounding on 4+, 8W, 4++ into 4, for 12D (but expecting 15D)
With no invul involved, we expect enough damage to kill a Knight or nearly. We expect to kill 5 BGVs, a 10 man Harlies squad, and a Flyrant (not the best target though).
There are some clear losing targets. We clearly lose on tackling Terminators (no Transhuman, lower saves, more gets through) and Sang Guard (10 guys 2+ 2W, 18A 18H 15W 10F 10 die, vs 18D 9 die). We clearly lose on IK Dogs (due to pts difference and lack of invul, since a 10 man can KO a normal Knight). I think it gets equal on CK dogs (1cp -1D; 12A 10H 7W 14D). But the CK Hepatrix Trait for 4W throws this off, and Elves matchup will be glad for 1D weaponry and MW in general, even if the trade is downwards at least it is a kill secured.
By no means is it conclusively better than Cutters but I think they stand to gain more than Cutters, and we stand to gain more pushing dmg than survival now that TTL is not an option anymore.
