I win an occasional game against Tau. If they bring decent numbers of units that aren't riptides, skyrays, broadsides, drones, or crisis suites. Lemme rephrase that. I sometimes win vs Tau players, unless they play Tau. As a stand alone comment this quote is really funny. I think it was a fair point for Tag to make though - I hadn't considered the point that some Tau lists might be more fun to play against. On the subject of non optimal lists my son and I had a laugh with the old codex picking each other the worst lists we could think of and then having a battle. The termagaunts in a pod with spike rifles was particularly funny, but some of the things like pyrovores were quite fun to play with. The mawloc was a complete star. We basically got to play with all the stuff we never used.

Is there going to be a new 7ed vs Tau thread or can I just post stuff here?

Is there going to be a new 7ed vs Tau thread or can I just post stuff here? Makes me wonder as well. Yuritomboy was pretty quick with this when 6th arrived. I guess all we can do is wait and discuss stuff here for now, he might have some important business or something

He usually waits at least a month or two before re-doing these after an update, sometimes longer, to wait for things to shake out a bit and everyone to get some actual experience with the new rules set first.

6th ed tau are basically 7th ed tau. You beat them the same way you did in 6th, and lose to them the same way. At least now marker lights don't cause grounded tests.
Maelstrom is a different story, and I could see farsight enclave getting more popular than vanilla because crisis suits are fairly moble, making for a good OS platform that still puts pain down range.

I have a 2500 point game coming up against Tau, and I'm fairly sure of the army my opponent will be using. I can expect ALOT of battle suits, specifically two units of broadsides, 3 riptides, and many many many crisis suits. I'm running this list below. My idea is to basically use as much pinning as possible, as well as the Living Artillery Formation to keep pressure on him for bigger bugs and tiny gribblies to make it to their lines. Split up Hive Guard and Venomthropes to maximize Shrouded and ID capability to suits, and some nasty distractions to take the heat off the frontal assault. Also, Walking Tyrant is basically a big distraction unit, meant to keep fire off of Carnifexes and Living Artillery. Flyrant, Harpy/Crone, and Gargoyles for quick harassment, followed by Mawloc and Devilgaunts. The big picture being to force him to shoot the wrong thing at the wrong time, then capitalize. Any suggestions?? (sorry for the long post!)

I'm not a really good strategist. But wouldn't finding 50pts get you a 3rd Guard and you could run the Tyrant Node formation. It gets you the same units plus one guard and extra synapse

I'd give Grubs and Hive Commander to both Flyrants and throw buckets of Guants at them.

Played my game, just a few notes...
1. I almost forgot how much of a bane the ScyTal nerf is, especially to sizable broods of Poison Gaunts. Made it really hard for them to force the fails of a riptide.
2. Against 3 riptides, a tarpit of gargs and hormies is godly. Especially when they hold up the fire long enough for a MC to join in and kill it. Managed to get them stuck, and it kept massive amounts of fire off of my army
3. I remember now why Walking Tyrants are so damned boring. Took forever to get it in to combat, and all it got to butcher was one measly sarge. The Flyrant however caused all sorts of mayhem and definitely set itself in the category of fish killer.
4. The 7th ed psychic phase is random, (please do not swear), and just plain dumb. I miss my leadership actually mattering.
5. Despite -1 BS, a full squad of Hive Guard is a thorn in anyone's side. Managed to murder train all crisis suits and marker lights. Plus, they added a lot to the Flyrant's already dependable fish hunting skills.
All in all, a 9 to 5 victory for Tyranids. Defiantly would've been able to do more, but when all your Psychic Powers go off at BS 3, you loose more than you win.

due to tau being horrible in a melee and more to shoot and run guerrilla tatics you would be best surrounding them with gaunts and bombarding the area they are incasing with either biovores or exocrines
