No FOC? What would that mean to your Nids? New Edition confi

I take this as new confirmation of a new edition or updated edition. So what does a No FOC formation if you choose to use, be fore your Nids? An all Pyrovore list?

The FoC chart is still in the new 40k edition and if you follow it you have what is known as a "Battle Forged" army. It awards (unlisted) bonuses for using the FoC.You can also take a unbound army, these allow you to take whatever you want from your collection and toss out the FoC (while still adhering to unit size and heeding the relationships described in the new Allies Matrix.

Another thing is objective cards, so the objectives of the game can change each turn. The deck will be 36 cards.

There is also a physic phase confirmed now. A pool of warp charge dice is created at the start of the psychic phase, equal to 1d6 + mastery lvl of psychers. You can use as many dice as you like, but increase risk of perils of the warp (which is now a table you roll on.) Enemy psychers can draw on warp charge pool to Deny the Witch and nulify powers.

Also Eternal warrior missions still exist but in addition there are 6 new Maelstrom of War Missions.

Additional information that a Battle Forged list can take as many detachments as they wish, and still get bonus's.. The Unbound lists, is very much whatever you want to throw in to do a battle, and you get to choose which you want to play, and your opponent can do the same

Sigh, new psychic powers that Tyranids can't yield. I wonder if this means the new ruleset will over ride the codex saying we can only use psychic powers in our codex only.

I also wonder what the Vanguard data slates will do now that we can field anything if we so choose to. I guess if we use the FOC we can use the data slates then.

There are already 5 psy disciplines we can't use, I am not concerned about 1-2 more. I am more concerned that they nerf Divination and the ally matrix.

OP: I don't think the 'Unbound' rule will affect me, I hope I never play with that rule. I just reeks of 'stupid-?

I really can't see them throwing out FOC altogether. That would just abandon any last lingering pretence at balanced armies. There would always have to be at least some minimum requirements to make a valid army otherwise what's the point of distinguishing between troops, elites, fast and heavy?

I've been playing Nids since 2nd edition, so have a large collection to choose from.

I hope so. Unless the penalties are severe, won't taking an 'Unbound' army create even more scope for abuse?

While we don't have all the details, it looks like GW has done this. Unless the 2 pics are a fake, there is 2 ways to play the game now. Play with the FOC and get bonuses, or throw them out the window, and use what ever you have.

Question now is, do Tyranids get to ally now?

I actually like how they went around the unbound armies theme. OF COURSE IT WONT BE IN TOURNEYS. A team of 10 Riptides is enough. Seriously, calm down. people like me who can only afford so much, but not stick to the foc will like the fluffy, casual style of unbound armies. If I wanna take a list of 12 Hive Crones at 2,000 points, theres no way a tourney is going to allow that, let alone my wallet!

Warforged armies are going to be the only thing really allowed. Unbound armies just puts it on paper that it's alright to create wacky, fluffy lists. Like Apoc, but on a smaller scale.

I'm holding my breath for rules changes, balancing out CC in the game, but so far it looks alright. Psychic phase kinda worries me, because of the placement of the phase, psychic shooting, and my Tyranids being VERY dependant on Dominion...

I'm cautiously optimistic. Depending how scoring is handled Unbound armies may still 'need' to bring some troops regardless, but it's a choice the player would make. I could see this making spammy lists spammier unless the Battle-Forged bonuses are strong enough to sway them, but an Elite & Heavy army could also be a lot of fun to run once or twice.
