Even though Nids no longer have their iconic (and let’s be honest - much overused) stratagems like double shoot and fight, we've got some fun moves in return.
After reading through the list I can tell there are a few standing out:
- Voracious Apetite - many of our heavy hitters are melee and rerolling wounds for 1 CP sounds fantastic. Haruspex, Tyrant, Screamers, Trygons, Mawlocs with their 16 attacks - all can benefit almost every time they reach their prey.
- Trampling Charge - you will get your Hive Tyrant into CC sooner or later and he’ll do extra MWs on the charge (up to 6!). It’s surprising how many models got the Horned Chitin keyword (and I’m so sad Screamers didn’t get it). Makes the prospect of an emergency charge with oddballs like the Maleceptor much more sensible.
- Overrun - a get-out-of-jail card for our Winged Tyrant and basically every other fast&furious CC hitter. Charge, devour and hide or position for a next charge forward to get more biomass quickly. Sometimes can be better than:
- Encircle the pray - if you build some units specifically for charging like a Behemoth Winged Tyrant or a Trygon Prime with the Passenger this one is insane (not to mention many other ways we can boost the charge roll). The only downside is that you must set up more than 9 away afterwards but as the upside the model is 100% safe from any kind of retaliation in the meantime. Works even better with Harpies as they do not care with charging, they just want to rain down venomous death with their double HVCs. Sick!
- Reinforced Hive Node - Warriors are going to get shot. A lot. Guaranteed They will brawl for objectives. A lot. Any multi-wound model is happy to reduce incoming damage, right? As far as I can see things, 5 models is optimal and it just so happens that for 5 or less models this Strat costs only 1 CP.
Those above will be used very often me thinks.
There is a bunch of Strats that are much more situational but can be great in certain circumstances:
- Power of the Hive Mind - basically a must-have if you take the Maleceptor to maximize the MWs output.
- Death Frenzy - your Tyrant or OOE got charged by Ghazzkul or Abaddon and didn't even blink before he got cut down? Make them pay, pay dearly for this. 2 CP is well worth the full round of CC with top profile in my book.
- Subterranean Assault - same old, nothing to see here, move along, watch your step though as you might fall into a tunnel full of angry bugs.
- Shard Lure - 3D6 drop lowest for charging a unit that got hit (not wounded, a hit is enough) by a Synpase model sounds... amazing. You can split-fire one Warrior just for that for example.
- Psychotropic Venom - this one is niche but can be insane in some cases. -2 LD and doubling the number of models running (or straight up making half of them run if they went below half-strenght) can be just what you need for contesting an objective with your Warriors. All this for the low low price of having a single model with a Lash Whip (and a CP).
What do you guys think?
