After close to 3 years of not playing, I'm looking to invade and digest worlds again. What's the current hotness for list building? I have a ton of models, so I can probably pull together about anything. I play with a close circle or friends, so only expect to see Orcs, Tau, Guard, and Ultramarines across from me. Probably 2000 point level.

Kronos patrol detachment with neurothrope (symbiostorm power), rippers, lictor (for secondaries deploy scramblers and engage on all fronts/linebreaker), hive guard and exocrines are very solid and a bit of a staple, especially of you wont be fighting death guard and dark angels (-1D hurts exos and hive guard efficiency a lot, otherwise they are super good).

Other than that I actually think we have a lot of options. Latest hotness is swarmlord with kraken dimachaerons. Recent point drops made 30 man devourer termagants good (180 shots for strategic reserves is handy vs hordes like guard and orks), warriors got cheaper and can be made quite durable (though their wargear is expensive imo, 2x scything talons is how I usually take them).

Just stay clear of toxicrene, haruspex, tyrant guard and fliers and you should be ok. Genestealers are a bit too pricey for what they do after recieving quadruple nerfs going into 9th.

Are you looking for competitive or narrative? GW added in narrative and campaign support by default now via crusade so that's pretty fun.

Not sure. What is Crusade? I could see us playing narrative. I haven't looked at the 9th edition rules yet, just getting my models with paint on them in preparation.

It's a narrative game mode where you take a small force and can level up units or expand your army as you play games.

Best wishes. Power armor armies are the new hotness. And for good reason. They can put out massive damage and point for point are very hard to shift. We struggle to hang. GSC are pretty much bottom of the barrel right now, but you didn't mention if you have any of those.

The top bug list seems to be double Dimachaeron, swarmlord, 30 devilgaunts, hormogaunts, neurothrope, lictor, rippers, exocrine, hive guard, and flyrant.

Flyrants also are no longer only used as dakka flyrants (I think three years ago this was still considered the only good way to build them?), but are great at being a forward missile or support.

or just a durable, mobile psyker platform with resonance barb for 3 casts at +1.

Definitely a great use for them too.

I've even found going mincost route with walkrants for psychic output to be fun as well.
