Adaptive physiology, why arent they smarter?

Look, they're a pretty good idea and all but it seems like ours were a bit rushed as it typically is.

I'm just asking if people could see a more logical depth to the rules.


One example I can think of is Dermic symbiosis, a 5++ isnt really that useful, its more about keeping you near to the top bracket of your monster,but what if the 5++ was a +1 to invulns on monsters that already had one (to a max of 3++ let's say). This would make fielding things like hive tyrants and maleceptors much more cost appropriate and not really that bad to bring.

Voracious ammunition could do the same thing but cause vehicle/monster units that are wounded by the weapon modify them somehow (my suggestion is it gets -1 to saving throws)

Accelerated digestion could give you the choice of either getting 1w a model for 3 models slain or gain a stacking FNP equal to a chart.
1 model 6+++
2 models 6+++rr1s
3 models +1 to any FNP

Anyone else think of anything? Am I just being greedy?/wishing too hard?

In a word? 'Yes'.

In more words? GW probably don't know what to do with nids and maybe don't care as they are an NPC race in fluff. Always an adversary to the heroic marine boys. Other xenos can be communicated with, even bartered or cooperated with. Not so for the nids. They might as well put some of the smarter folks of the hive to make a new codex and have their own playtesters tweak to sort out the worst fanboy'ery than attempt to write it themselves.

Well it sure as hell wasn't because they acknowledged our traits were trash tier, because Milirarum got Tank Aces right after and their traits are great.

I love the physiologies, I just wish it was unique to the faceless horde, not just "another" upgrade armies get. I think it made a nice immersion fielding faceless monsters and not a hero.

I like adaptive physiology but I find it weird that you can only have 2 regardless of playing 250p or 3000. They clearly lack proper scaling.

I doubt this mechanic would work, but I'd love to have some sort of Tyranid "currency" when building a list. You can spend these points on upgrades to really customize the fleet.

I think there was something similar back in 3rd ed? I played then but was only 12 so no real memory of playing things correctly lol

When did they acknowledge such things?

Also, the IG ones aren't stellar. The Super Heavy variants are all unusable, the Support Tank one there's a clear winner, and the LR ones are all kinda OK-meh, can consider not even taking.

Same with the Necron list - there's like a bunch of weird effects, some niche usable that have to be bought with points so aren't usable competitively, and then like 2 potentially decent ones that cost a bomb.

I was equally upset to see our thing wasn't uniquely Tyranids, and that IG got it straight out the book. Still, an interesting way to build "identity".

It would be really fun to see synapse reworked into a buff relay mechanism.

Like, basic synapse still provides fearless and then certain synpase creatures could also pass on a buff, e.g. 6+++ or +1 to hit, to a recipient unit within synapse range. The real kicker would then be that synapse creatures in range of the first creature can pass it on within their own synapse range so that synapse coverage allows buffs to be relayed through the network and even stacked on single unit although they originate from different sources.

That would really make it a network of synapse creatures relaying mandates from the central synapse node down through the lesser creatures and once you start losing synapse units those mandates can no longer go, where there is no coverage. The Leviathan psychic power would suddenly also make much more sense.

I would think so. The SM codex lets you pay some more points for some characters to get a better version of the character, with acces to other stratagems and relics.

The changes in BoB and how the new SM codex are I am feeling exited for codexes in 9th edition. When we get one it will probably have more flexabilaty in it.

What i am hoping for is that when they nerf the good choices we currently use they dont forget to buff the others.

Saltiness aside, they have shown an inclination towards internal balancing which is great but it should always be acompanied by external balance too.

I view these as test rules for what I hope are built in rules or point cost upgrades for some units, sort of like the chapter leadership upgrades in the marine psychic awakening turned into point upgrades. It would be solid, for example, to be able to take all monsters with dermic sympbiosis while sitll using a monstrous size upgrade on a flyrant.

Was literally going to suggest this - especially the ones which affect a specific unit.

With Duty Eternal being built into Space Marines dreads, I can see this as a real possibility.

Imagine Warriors with enhanced resistance built in or Trygons always having murderous size :-)

That would be one way to bring warriors out in numbers. They have long been one of my favorite units in the codex, but so often they are either horribly overcosted or have a very niche role. It would be great if they were prime time for once. As it is they are flirting with being a main line unit but only after having several buffs thrown their way, having one of the big ones built in would make them truly good for the first time in a LONG time.
