Help with magnets

I magnetized the body of my hive tyrant and the left arm the magnet fell a bit and didnt land where i wanted (deep hole) but polarization if fine, the right arm on the other hand has the magnet exactly where i want it, but whenever i put a magnet in to check polarization or check with my glued arm , the magnet gets stuck, it pulled off the glued arm (using citadel super glue probably waited 30-1hr, it said dry time was 5 mins) i try to twist it off to prevent that, and its getting annoying digging out magnets to test. is citadel super glue not strong enough for this, did it need more drying time. im scared to even test it XD

Are you using green stuff? I suspect that the super glue's just not getting a good join.

no green stuff, i ran out and none at the flgs, i saw a guy on youtube doing a comission and he didnt use greenstuff, i thought id be ok, guess im ordering some off amazon. thanks a ton noone

I'm using 3/16 x 1/32 n52 magnets, double stacked in the arm sockets, for carnifexes. I backed the sockets with greenstuff before I assembled them so that they will never break and fall inward. For the arms, I cut back the should nub and filed it to make it rough, then glued directly to that flat spot. The magnets hold very strongly and I havent had one pop off yet. I think the key to a solid bond is a flat and rough surface so that it has as much surface area to stick to as possible.

I have used green stuff on a few of the shoulders because I cut back a little to far and I do think those magnets will ever come off, so maybe try that. I put a small ball of greenstuff on the shoulder then smushed the magnet into it. The greenstuff that squeezed out from under the magnet I shaped around the side but not over the magnet. If the magnet eventually comes out of the greenstuff just glue it back in and you should never have a problem again.


Edit: if you can't find Greenstuff there are other epoxy putties out there. Milliput is very popular and easy to find at hobby stores and I use Apoxie Sculpt(i think its the same thing). They are way cheaper than greenstuff but have a different feel. I'm not 100% sure they would work as well for this situation.

thanks hive mind, but its the arms themselves that where the issue, the sockets are fine, its the arm when i put the arm in the right socket (i only have only arm magnetized atm) the magnet was coming off, the left one it was fine, but the right one the arm magnet would get stuck to the magnet in the torso, and i tried the whole dont pull it, slide it off method. if it happens again ill try filing it down more (i did a little) and using greenstuff., just a pain to keep digging it out

thanks a ton for the video tylertt, i think ill give that drilling the arm method a shot, looks like it could have a cleaner finish, and i think the hole i drilled in the torso may be to tight , and thats why the magnets getting stuck so if its inside the arm, more points of conatct for super glue and maybe it wont get stuck in the hole on the torso again . if that fails i have green stuff on order.

It was the arms i was talking about. I mentioned how I set up the sockets because they are particularly strong but still don't pull off the magnets on the arms.
