big F U to games workshop / gripe post

well the new points for 9th are out and im am very unhappy to say the least. they took every unit thats worth anything in the tyranid roster and made them so outrageously expensive. hive guard, genestealers, hive tyrants. 8th edition is my first edition in this game and i bought a surplus army from my friend. as one of the first armies to get a codex with 8th edition they started out strong but it wouldnt last. with every single faq and CA since 8th started they have found a way to nerf they nyds again and again and again. be it by directly nerfing them or by giving every other army a version of the tyranids ability thats just strictly better. They have done the nyds so dirty since ive started paying attention. even our PA book has a puny 8 pages for the nyds while pretty much the entire rest of the book is for blood angels. 

i am so incredibly unhappy with GW it puts a really sour taste in my mouth about the whole game in general and really makes me contemplate just not playing anymore. i hate this whole trend of just "play space marines or lose" its so boring and im tired of it. tyranids were by far one of the worst armies affected by the points increase even though most of their units were already overpriced to begin with. im just angry, maybe irrationally maybe not i just dont know.

someone with more experience please tell me if im wrong here and im just overreacting or if my feelings are justified. because as much as id like to believe that the other armies also got hit with this points increase hard enough to counteract the terrible increases the nyds have got i just have a feeling that we got hit way harder than we needed to and its just makes me feel very alienated in general.

am i wrong...?

It's going to be a rather different game, so time will tell.

I dunno I'd get out the torches and pitchforks over this. We weren't exactly burning the barn doors down in 8th, our relative position at the bottom of the pack is probably unchanged.

i just cannot stand how much they have just mugged the nyds in an alley. its like they dont want people to play them its so annoying and honestly id rather quit the game than have to buy a whole new army just to have a chance at winning. its BS

While I share the sentiment, many points have migrated from the weapons to the bodies. If you calculate gear, many stuff are not actually that expensive.

Well, that's always an option I guess.

Another option is to realize they do this all the time and not get so excited about it. Things will get shifted around several times per year, sometimes in (over)reaction to (perceived or real) issues, sometimes arbitrarily and often in the worst possible fashion.

Not really many of those for us, in fact for both we have gotten a points increase on the body and weapon.

im looking over the FAQ now as well and its just a nightmare. they didnt address the Jormungandr problem at all. they just murdered lictors and deathleaper. its so sad.

Jorm is light cover, its covered in the rare rules section I think.

Lictors and DL were sort of hot garbage, this didn't do anything to change their relative status.

Hive guard weapons dropped by a lot. T-fex weapons went down greatly. The stupid mandatory 4xStr5 weapon on T-fex / Tervigon is now free.

It's not perfect, but it's more than a few.

i think only the shock cannon went down. and T-fexes and terivigon have been are are still trash. the rules for them are just bad.

I'd do my best to keep an open mind about this. We're looking at net increases across the board, sure, but so is almost every other faction.

Worst case scenario is we end up exactly where we are now, but with better terrain and options for cover.

the nys got hit harder by the points increases than almost any other faction. by alot. jormungandr is also a huge grey area rn since the just so happened no not clarify their rules as to what kind of cover they get. they are actively trying to push people away from tyranids so they they have to buy whole new armies when they finally get their first new models in years

Hive Guards (with Impaler Cannons ofc) went up 7ppm, or 16.3%. Not too bad in the light of things. Nids were decent in the beginning of 8th ed but fell behind the power creep pretty badly as the game moved forward. We don't really know were we stand atm, maybe Gant carpet with only 5 turns is incredibly good again. Personally I loathe playing a game of removing my models, hug objectives and kill nothing while I hope I score enough early so my opponent can't catch up. I hope we'll have an aggressive build that can compete.

Of course SupCom is also hosed but still we could maybe bring back the old 7 flyrant lists.
