Looking for advice greenstuffing infestation/muscle

I'm currently trying to work on making some infested vehicles/walkers (knight) and was looking for a bit of help.

I was wondering if anyone has any good advice in modelling infestation "creep" or, more importantly, modelling the muscle/join between mechanical and biological. (the "neck" for head attaching to walker for example

I've had in mixing materials to give the appearance of creep. In this image, I made it look like it was spreading from the little capillary growth by using two different processes. The first was mixing elmer's glue and superglue together (with a throwaway brush) causing the superglue to start curing instantly. Using the brush, you can move it around as it strands and dries and it gives it a stringy and gooey texture. Then, to transition from that to the dirt, I used lustrian undergrowth, a citadel texture paint that's basically paint+sand to give it a bumpy texture . This way it looked like there was an actual growth to the creep, rather than just sinew sticking to dirt. I painted it all up and added a gloss to it and voila! Gross bug infestation.
