With a new tyranid codex come a new versus thread for Eldar. The purpose of this thread is to discuss how our new codex can deal with this army in general. This is not a place to post army lists for review. This is a place to discuss what units work against the Eldar, what units we should watch out for, tactics and army builds we expect to see when playing Eldar, allies they usually take, and questions you might have before or after fighting an Eldar opponent.
Fair warning, the versus threads will stay on topic at all times. The moderating staff reserves the right to move or delete any post they deem off topic, incoherent, flat out wrong, or confusing to read (i.e. out of context due to previous posts being removed). This is a serious discussion geared towards people who want to play better against the Eldar, so let's act like it.

Ok. Question one: how do I deal with a wraithknight?

Tyrants with Boneswords are one viable options.

Yeah many people here have had great success with a flrant with either bonesword or reaper

sounds good, although I don't currently have a flyrant, but I will most likely get one within a month or so, just need to snag a torso on ebay. How about swarmlord? I suppose he might have slight difficulty getting close to it, but some massed gaunts/ gargoyles with a venomthrope should provide sufficient cover and limit its jump movement allowing me to get close and ID it. Or perhaps DSing trygon prime?

The problem with the Swarmlord is catching the thing. Just tarpitting with Gargoyles can work pretty well, too, especially if the Eldar Player doesn't have much to break the tarpit with.

I suppose I could tarpit it and THEN swarmy could insta-kill it... Thanks for the advice, one reaper of obliterax coming up!

With access to Toxin Sacs, Wraith Knights don't scare me all that much. Genestealers with TS would make short work of one as would Hormas.
Main problem is obviously getting them there.

someone that lets you catch a WK with stealers is seriously derp. gargoyles on the other hand should run them down pretty effectively.

Can you provide his list and yours? Walkers do put out a ton of fire power, but are pretty vulnerable to shooting. Hive Guard, Flyrants, and Fexes can make a mess out of them. However if he outflanked them, that can be a extreme annoyance.
Your best options for Warwalkers are the following: Hive Guard Flyrants Crones DakkaFexes
As for dealing with massed Serpents, I personally have found Hive Guard used to work extremely well, but being down to BS3 hurt them quite a bit on the consistency scale. Flyrants are always a good option as are Crones. Crones S8 ignoring cover VS can be effective at stopping them for sure.
Give us a list run down and we can help suggest some tactics or changes for you.

My list was: Flyrant Prime with obliterax Troop terv with miasma cannon 1 zoan 1lictor 2 venoms 23 hormas 30 gaunts crone 2x 5 mine clusters Mawloc 2 devilfexes Bastion coms relay ---------------------------- Eldar had
1 farseer on bike
2x 3 bikes
3x wave serpents with scatter lasers ( 2 had dire avengers, 1 had dark reapers) 2x 3 walkers with scatter lasers 1 anti Air flyer 2 warp spider Units Maybe one more UNIT but i dont remember -------------
Basically he had so many str 6 shots plus the ignore cover shield shots from wave serpents that e killed most of my army in 2-3 turns. Enviado do meu iPad usando o Tapatalk

Hmm, that is a pretty darn tough list to go up against to begin with. Looking at your list you played against him, it definitely was a list that the Eldar player would have a easier time combatting.
Your second list looks much much stronger to combat against his. Now I know Deathleaper can look appealing, but if you can, swapping him out for another Flyrant may be a bit better of an option. The question would be how you would be able to fit him in.
You could drop the Bastion, Deathleaper, and spine banks on fexes, but based off of his list, he does not have too much that can easily dispatch it (Tons of S6 I know, but it does hold up strong with Venoms inside and any heat off your main killer is good).
What I would do is drop off the Deathleaper, One Hive Guard, Spinebanks & Adrenal Glands on Fexes, and the Thorax on the Tfex.
Big thing you want to try and make sure of, is keeping key units in synapse. Biovores will be a must and based on your list you will need to use the Zoanthrope to keep them safe. Take Dominion on Flyrants if you get anything else aside from Onslught, Catalyst, and maybe Paroxysm. Tervigon with Dominion is also a must unless you get Catalyst. Move the Tervigon forward to keep Synapse on Hive Guard and the Fexes.
Use the Flyrants & Crones to try and gun down the Wave Serpents as quickly as possible. If you can get onslaught, it is a huge boon as you can try and run into the rear arcs of the Serpents. For your FMCs you want to use cover constantly to your advantage as well too. You want to keep them in area terrain or ruins as they fly up to keep them protected in case of being grounded or just to help against any AP3 or lower shots. This helps especially against his flier which has a ton of AP2 Str 8 shots.
Use the Fexes and Tfex to try and clear out those Warwalkers and any infantry in the way.The Warp Spiders are a huge issue as well. But if you can get them on top of the Bastion, and have the venomthrope inside they should stay alive to bomb the Spiders. The Crone would also do wonders against the War Walkers if you can make the Vector Strike.
The big thing you want to do is strike as hard and quickly as you can. If he is outflanking the Warwalkers, target the Serpents first. But if those Warwalkers are on the table, I would gun them down first. It is far too many twinlinked S6 shots to have coming at your main force, plus they are much easier to blow off the table first compared to the Serpents. If you can drop those walkers off the table, then use your main force to march up the table as you know for sure he is going to use his Serpents on your FMCs until his flyer arrives. Just keep in mind the deep strike of the Warp Spiders, and be prepared to counter.
I hope some of this will help you out, and be sure to post the results of your next match up.
