Question about Necron Warscythe

Good morning Hive. I have a rules question about warscythes. In a recent game my brood of Raveners assaulted a squad of sword and board lychguard accompanied with Obyron. The Raveners annihilated the lychguard however when it was time for obyron to strike back he said his melee attacks were strength 8 thanks to the scythe and insta gibbed 4 raveners.

I looked into it afterwards and as near as I can tell the highest you can get a war scythe is Strength 7 but I'm not sure if I'm missing a rule somewhere. Anyone more familiar with necron codex know for sure?

Going by just the Warscythe and Vargard Obyron, I get to only S7 as well. Obyron being S5 and a Warscythe being a S+2 weapon. Unless there was an outside factor, he was S7 and not S8 in that assault phase.

The only way to increase the strength on a Warscythe up to 8 is getting Furious Charge. If he had Nemesor Zandrekh as well he can give Furious Charge to one unit a turn and maybe your opponent just wasn't clear on what he was doing?

Like he said, probably misunderstood how the rules work.

Seems like a "well, the necron forums said this" thing without understanding why.

He didn't have the nemesor, just Obyron but yea I assaulted him so it wouldn't have worked anyway. It was probably just a rules screwup but I'll have to keep the nemesors rule in mind. Barring that, the doomsday ark, and the death scythe Necrons don't seem to have a lot of Str 8 attacks.

Very true. I have found that Raveners can be a real pain for Warriors, and most Necron units. Long as you use terrain and LoS blocking terrain to your advantage, should be able to arrive with a rather untouched Ravener unit right in their face. (Also a bit of luck always helps too lol)

Necrons have quite a few S8+ weapons.

Eldritch Lance on Crypteks of Destruction.

Heat Ray on Triarch Stalker.

Death Ray on the Doom Scythe.

Templates from the Monolith and the Doomsday Ark.

Lightning Bolt from the C'tan Shard.

Tachyon Arrow on any Lord who wants to take it.

Luckily most are on units not commonly seen. Those Triarch Stalkers can actually be a huge pain for Tyranids, with the Heat Ray firing as either S8, Ap1, Heavy2 24" to pick apart Warrior or Ravener squads from afar and then switching to the S5 AP4 flame template when the hordes of little gribblies get close. Combine that with AV13 Walkers and while its not killing us in CC (no powerfists, only 2 S7 CC attacks), it can still tarpit a unit for an entire game.

I did forget about the stalker... He uses two of them regularly and they cause a lot of problems. More so because of their resiliency to most of my army and the TL buff they offer but the melta shots are a pain. I wasn't aware of the other ones though - I haven't come across them yet.
