2500 point necron army list

So I have recently aquired a necron codex and have decided to start a new project. To create a 2500 point, relatively viable and fun but also very appealing fluff wise. While I have not got a color scheme or any backstory yet I would really appreciate any tips or good ideas,

THE LIST ( dun dun dun) :

Necron 2490 point army list:

(400 points) HQ:
Necron overlord w. warsythe, sempiternal wave and tachyon arrow.= 145points
Royal court w. necron lord X3 ( res orb and warscythes) =155 points
And 2 cryptek ( 1 eternity w. timespliter cloak and 1 despair w. veil of dark)= 105points

(560 points) TROOPS:
Necron warriors X15 =195 points
Immortals X10 w. tesla =170points
Necron warriors X15 =195 points

(300 points) TRANSPORTS:
Night scythe X3 =300points

(525 points) ELITES:
Deathmarks X5 =95points
Ctan shard w. gaze of death and transdimensional thunderbolt =280 points
Traich stalker =150 points

(180 points) FAST ATTACK:
Heavy destroyer X3 = 180

(525 points) HEAVY SUPPORT:
Doomsday ark X3 =525 points

Hm I have a necron codex but not with me right now. I don't really play them though. From what I've heard the stalker isn't worth the points. 150 points for twinlinking at one target per phase is a bit expensive when the points could be taken to say gice you another unit of destroyers (not heavy thought). Thanks, I might remove that then. I was thinking of having a very shoots army where I could pretty much destroy all there vehicles in the first turn with my height strength low ap weapons ( eg. Doomsday cannon or tachyon arrow) then deploy my main troops from doom scythes and use tesla to kill off hordes. To deal with strong enemy characters i would plan to use my death marks or HQ units. Some units I just have because of the fluff and models, for example the c'tan and stalkers. But after further thought they don't seem that good. I could always use more wraiths or add some coils to the ones I already have. They seem really powerful in CC.

I play necrons as my main army at the moment, and I can confirm the stalker sucks. It will rarely do anything worthwhile on its own, and the twin-linking isn't worth 150 points base.

Doomsday Arks can be fun, but 3 is overkill. A monolith gives you a ton of utility, even if its main gun is better at gibbing marines than blasting vehicles. A Doom Scythe lays down a 360 degree line of awesome vs any hard target. Anilihilation barges are really good at smoking almost everything with a W characteristic (and even light vehicles!).

C'tan shards are only worth it in themed lists, they are crazy expensive points wise and don't have the durability to show for it. A really fun one is taking trans-teks, and forcing the enemy to take DT tests to move through open terrain. They are plenty of fun in more casual settings, and have plenty of interesting rules, they are just over-priced for what they do in a competitive environment.

Tachyon arrow is also not worth it. Packing gauss will handle all vehicles as long as you take it in bulk. The one time I like warriors over Immortals is when a tank needs to die.

Wraiths are stupidly killy. I can't believe they are only 35 points for all the junk they come standard with. They tear up all but dedicated deathstars. Whips are excellent if your worried about dangerous attacks like MCs chunking them before they get to swing.

A lord with a phase shifter will pull more weight than the time-splinter cloak will, and actually can cause you to win combat vs many units that are popular right now, like riptides. Resorb is the number 1 reason to take lords in your court.

PUT MSS ON EVERYTHING!!! They are busted vs everything but true hordes.

I prefer gauss immortals because I rarely take warriors. Too much AP4 in the top armies at the minute. Not saying they aren't fine, but you could easily lose a full blob to a round of high yield pods each turn. If I did run more warriors, then I would pack tesla immortals.

If your looking for a gun-line army, I'm sorry to say that most things in the cron dex don't have good enough range to play keep away forever. Most everything is 24", and I find that its best to just move up the field in most matchups.

I might take a doom scythe as opposed to a doomsday ark because they also seem really strong, I will definitely get ridd of the stalker, I'm thinking of replacing it with a few wraiths ( maybe 5 without coils ). I am thinking of keeping my cryptek because I had. A lore idea in mind and It seemed to fit in quite well. If get rid of gaze of death or transdimensional thunderbolt and replace it with writhing worldscape . I also had a good idea for a paint scheme so I may start a thread on that when I get started. The reason why I have included warriors is for 2 reason, one I already own some warriors ( 20 I think ) and the old immortals used to be made of metal, I don't know I this is still the case but I don't feel like risking it. I might get a phase shifter on my lord because I want him to be a CC presence that hopefully I can keep alive. If I do get rid of the timespliter cloak what should I add in its place, would you recommend getting chronometron and just keep him as. A support. With this royal court I could instantly deep strike anywhere on the board, get 7 str 6 hits with rerolls, then subsequently hope too survive for a couple turns. Because of my 2+ and 3+ saves. Does this sound like a good strategy, or will it just get me stupidly killed. Getting rid of tachyon arrow, timespliter cloak, gaze of death and the stalker and replacing them with phase shifter, chronometron, 5 wraiths and writhing world scape would leave me with exactly 2500 points. This seems pretty good. I'm also using tesla on my immortals because I currently have no other way of dealing with hordes. What is MSS

New immortals are a plastic kit. Its the same kit to make deathmarks too.

The time cryptek is cute, but its a cc model with a shooting stat line. Crypteks (like almost everything in the dex) suck eggs at combat. The best use for him is to stall a character in a challenge with his 3++ upgrade. A lord can do that, can actually kill things with a warscythe, gives better buffs (resorb), gets a cheap 2+ save, has a better base save, and can have MSS. That's a lot going for him over the cryptek.

Crypteks are better when you have a specific use for them. When I do take a ghost ark, I put harbingers of destruction in it, to turn it into a real tank to go with the large volume of fire. You don't always want it near the front lines (especially after it has been pened), so this allows it to still shoot with a worthwhile gun at long range. Despairteks with a veil make deathmarks really powerful. That flamer now wounds on 2+, is AP1, and ignores cover as long as its with the deathmarks, and it gets the deathmarks in range of the marked target. Stormteks add a short range punch to a unit, and can take some powerful deterrents, either to charging, deep striking, or both. They also double up as insane vehicle killers, as they average 2 hull points off a vehicle that they shoot (and they could be a pen).


If your planning for a royal deathstar, you are best taking maxed lords and crypteks, only upgrading one cryptek to harbinger of despair for the veil, then keeping everything else with a staff of light. You can upgrade all the lords with 2+ saves, put your overlord in there with a resorb and kit him out like a cc boss. This gives you a unit that:

1) Has extreme mobility from the veil.

2) Has 27 S5 AP3 shots, which will ruin most units day.

3) Has a template that, while not crazy powerful, does ignore cover.

4) Will be majority T5, so harder to wound, with strong saves.

5) Your overwatch if you get charged will hurt.

6) Your Overlord (when kitted properly) will smash virtually anything it connects with that isn't T7+, and MSS will help win combat vs super characters.

7) If your super mean, you can put MSS on every lord in the unit, making a large number of enemy models fight for you if you do get charged.

While the unit is powerful, I will warn you that you are VERY susceptible to getting screwed because you are deepstriking without protection. A bad scatter can put you out of range, or worse, mishap and lose a very expensive unit. If your group isn't really that competitive it will be fine, but if you are entering a tournament with it I would advise against it. The only way to counter that is to use Obyron and Zahndrek, with Zahndrek in a CCB. Turn one you move out 12" with the CCB and Obyron can pin point land within 6" of the hull. This lets you add another staff of light to your court (you don't need the despairtek for veil now), but it makes this tactic even more expensive points wise.
