If not the letter, then the spirit of the rules suggests yes. To be the lawyer... well how (how well) does infamy sit with you? See, the problem with that is the 'spirit' of the rules is a pretty subjective, almost arbitrary, assessment. A couple of years ago I had a guy explain to me that dropping empty drop pods was against the intent/spirit of the rules, and only a WAAC player would do so. In this case, luckily, we don't need to worry about that. Since Unique is per army, and even with 2 detachments (FOC), it is still one army. As usual you are very correct. Though I would bet real money that people would try this.

So Thursday I played against nids the first time. 3265 points, because we could. Was interesting. Our Swarmlords One-shot each other in a challenge. And a Trygon prime assaulted the DoM. He didn't smash and dealt 3 wounds., knocking down to 1. Doomie didn't scratch it.
Then shooting phase came up, he rolled a 16 on the leadership test. Trygon prime took 6 wounds. Aaaaand it's gone.
I love this thing.

Best: 3vs3 game 1k each allies Nids(me), CSM(before new codex), Orks enemy Tau, IG, BA I was running a swarm army with the Doom tagged on (his first time seeing play) Both marine armies set up midfield (on a 4x10 table) across from each other. the enemy ig fireing line spread out across the whole back edge of his deployment and the tau player tucked himself in the corner... the orks and trukks were lined up to assault the tau and i was left spread out everywhere (used as a meat shield ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ) it was a real laugh when the tau blew up the trukks and IG killed alot of the orks and my nid meat shields but on turn 2 my DoM DS right next to the tau... the whole 1k points worth of tau left the board before any shots were fired, he then proceeded to blow 2 IG tanks and clear a unit of IG infantry lol it was hilarious. after that no one will play a aganst me if i run the doom they say hes cheesy and cheap.... the guy i wiped off the board has now switched to DE and focuses on spamming as much poisonous fire power as he can... and still won't play against the doom

I would refuse to play against his ranged poisoned attacks ;-)
Turn about is fair play I think. If he will drop his massed ranged poison, you will drop the doom, and then eat him alive.

I would say that the more points you play, the less game breaking the doom becomes. I've had him wipe out 2 12 man tau fire warriors and a hammerhead in a single turn and that can be a tad unfair at 500 - 1000pts, when you get to 2000-3000pts people tend to bring loads of str8+ firepower that makes short work of him in my opinion. One of the funniest/worst moments with him for me was when I dropped him in front of about 30 guardsmen, and who then proceeded to roll 5 for the leadership test and rapid fired into him next turn killing him in a rather spectacular fashion. (It did stop him from shooting at the hormies that were coming behind him though ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) )

Doom will almost always be from 'meh' to 'decent'.... but occasionally will hit 'awesome'.
Opponents only remember the awesomes.
I once had 7-8 termagants shoot and take out 4 terminators.... yet folks realize that was way unusual luck and still let me play with gaunts.

I find the doom to be a tactical 2 shot wonder any opponent that allows him to soul suck a third time is a rookie. I always drop him as close as possible to as many units as possible and hope he gets his points back some times he does sometimes he doesn't but in either case it makes your opponent pay attention to him and give the rest of my units that much needed turn of moderately unmolested movement while the doom draws fire. I have found that dropping the doom with two pods full of devil giants can be a nice tactic it really makes your opponent do the "oh shi*" shuffle ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

i have found that getting him into a combat is really good against some players. the fact that he sucks out peoples energy in all shooting phases is great. if he can't be shot at because he is in a combat it still works so he gets a nice little shield.

Worst: I played my first game with the Doom against a ork army, it kills like 4 orks at the my first turn then it lose 3 wounds beacuse of Cataclysm. When my opponent then start his shooting phase he instakill my Doom and that is first blood for him. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

It happened a long time ago, but my best with doom was when I dropped him in a Apoc game vs guard and templars. He survived the game and killed about 14 termies, lysander, and a (please do not swear) ton of guard. One round he took 13 str 8 wounds, passed every invul.

The best use of the Doom I have is killing Draigo wing deathstar in one turn, in his shooting phase ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) . I generally don't use it from sheer honour - it can womp out but it hasn't with me. Something that (for me) consistently takes out 6 times its points in stuff is something not very fun.

I've had my doom drop in, completely drain a seven-man purifier squad, and then cataclysm a landraider, killing three of the five GK termies inside. He then went on to head-butt Coteaz to death and cataclysm a dreadknight's last wound. Best game I've ever had, period.
On the other hand, I've had him pop in, drain one marine, and then eat four krak missiles. Curse you strength 8!!!

He is only 90 points and he is amazing for his points! He is a perfect distraction for every player who knows what he can do. Sending in backup troops could be great to distract the enemy even more and possibly crush him from behind. The doom is a yes but you need a mycetic spore! I know epochstudioz has some extrodinary awesome pods and I highly recomend using them because it is really hard to sculpt and making own pods can be a real pain (I am trying to scratch build some but they don't turn out well ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ). The design is the most difficult part. How it falls, how it lands, how it opens, you gotta keep all those segments in mind for a good design. It is really difficult to figure out how to make them hollow so they can open. Anyone got a good mycetic spore lying around? Please take a picture and post it ao we can gather ideas. I know this is a Doom of Malan'tai post but they are so depending on each other, or, mostly the Doom is depending on the pod. A swede has his problems with english and I excuse myself.
