That Crazy Doom of Malan'tai

I'm sure anyone who uses the Doom of Malan'tai sees it as a fantastic distraction, a glass cannon, or a roflstomping murderblast. Mine tends to die on the turn it arrives. But there are exceptions. What's your best/most hilarious DoM situation? What's your worst? Post a picture of yours if you'd like. i88.photobucket.com/albums/k169/shadow00746/Snapshot_20130319_5_zps31510e9e.pngAs for me, last Saturday we were playing a 1500pt game. I dropped my Doom next to CSM Mark of Khorne squad and mark of Nurgle Squad. In the following turns the Doom was assaulted by a 5 man Terminator squad, the Khorne squad, and Typhus. We spent from turn 2 to turn 5 going at it. Doom saved every ID wound while regaining losses with spirit leech. It ended with two terminators and Typhus, when I finally failed my invul save on a Power fist. Best day. As for the worst day: Doom drops in near three Ork units (Was a while, i can't really remember) They all passed the 3d6 leadership test, failed to pass her psychic test for Cataclysm, and then the Doom failed all 4 saves from the 4 wounds dealt by one group. Love it, hate it. Which are you?

I dropped him into draigowing once in a 10k apoc game.
Lasted until turn 5 when draigo on 1 wound finally broke through the invuln with 1 scoring man left alive, to consolidate those last few inches to be in objective range.
I can't even count the number of times everything has gone horribly wrong for DoM but I still love him.

My doom came down in a 600pt doubles tourney. Necron warriors roles 17 on their leadership and poof went the squad after a bout of other shooting. I find even if the doom whiffs everyone still shoots it as they know what it can do!

Thanks, lictor. Was the best way I could think of to test out warhammer before investing any real money into it.

Best: Doom lands next to two units of fire warriors and a stealthsuit unit, kills two stealthsuits, and a total of of 9 firewarriors from the two units, one unit of firewarriors runs away. Doom then assaults the last unit of firewarriors and kills them all over the next turn or two Worst: A game where i forgot to do his aura in my enemy shooting phase TWICE. Or any game where he gets 1shotted and does nothing (happens half the time).

My doom manages to perform acceptably most games getting up to 8-10 wounds. I can 100% of the time rely on him to fail single instant death wounds; if it's more than one he seems to pass them. I haven't seen anything else tied to a die in this game perform so consistently.
The stupidest whiff I've ever seen from him was when I managed to spore him in safely out of LoS under a skyshield platform under the majority of a tau players army. I watched in befuddlement as a firewarrior squad, HQ suit, sniper drone team, and broadside team all passed their leaderships with room to spare till turn 4 or 5 when the broadsides stepped down and killed me with their missile fists...not rail shots, but the cruddy missiles. The tau player and I got a good laugh out of it though.

I would love to run doom, but I can't bring myself to replace the HiveGuard/Zoans/Yealers to do it...

I usually run him, he is just too good when he does well and still okay when he does bad. Best game was against a deathwing army, he wiped out 1250 +- points by himself. Just epic!

Let me introduce you to my doom It's an old photo of him though, the base looks better by now The first few times I used him, he was just awesome. Killed a whole 1500 Pts Grey Knight-Army all by himself, including a dreadknight coming in from reserves. He stepped into his aura, rolled a 15 on his Ld-test and failed all 5++ at once. Epic moment! (It's extra-funny if you know the German names for them both: Nemesis von Malantai and Nemesis-Ritter^^) Then on the next game a friend of mine wanted to try a phalanx-tactic with lots of terminators and walking space marine units providing cover to each other, then doom dropped in their middle and wiped them all out. My fellow never wanted to play against him again XD On the last games he dissapointed me every time ... In our big apo-battle lately he killed nothing and died to the first lascannon aiming at him. And again my opponent walked into the aura and friendly as I am I told him his failure. Again someone said I had to tell them that this power works on both shooting phases. But I tell that everytime! They just don't listen to me!

I've used the doom twice now and in both games I've won thanks to the doom killing more than his points worth. I know that he will fail for me and it will prob be a epic fail lol :-)

My funniest was probably not even playing nids. I was playing my DKOK with a 50 man melee blob (2ccw, fist on 4 of 5 sergents). I threw everything at him when he dropped, including 2 6 lascannon teams and he passed everything. So i did what any dkok player would rightfully do, i assaulted him. He was at 10 wounds from leeching, but the emperor was looking on those dice. I punched him to death in 1 round with 45 pistol shots+ 135 attacks in melee.
I have also had fun playing with him. In a tourney a nid player dropped the doom on me, leeched 10 wounds, and managed to peril himself when casting. My doom drooped, leeched 10 wounds from his side(including all his hive guard), then proceeded to shoot his doom with a S10 blast and kill him. We were both chuckling about that for while.

I have a gentleman's agreement not to play him unless pre-arranged.

Doom drops on turn 2, gets up to 10 wounds from his leeching abilty in the shooting phase, fires cataclysm. The blast then scatter back onto himself and the pod, instakilling both. Yeah, i failed his 3++.

Best thing that ever happened with my Doom was I leeched up to 10 wounds, fired cataclysm at 2 rhinos that were close together. Blew both of them up killing around half of the marines from each squad. My opponent wanted to quit after that.
Worst is whenever a single S8 weapon is fired at the doom, I have NEVER made a save when its an ID weapon and its a single shot...
