Ymgarl genestealers how many do you use in a brood

Haven't really used this unit before but planning to do so tonight not shore wether to use a unit of 5 and take 2 biovores or to take a unit of 9 ymgarl

The mission I'm going to be playing is blood of martyrs which is on pg 354 of the rule book it's a 750pt game with the defender only using 500pts of his army. I plan to use the ymgarls to either as a defender pop up in front (or behind) the attacking forces to disrupt them as the only way to win this mission as the defender is to survive till the end of tern seven or as an attacker to disrupted there back line
I don't no what army ill be facing till I go down to my local gaming store tonight tho

The army I've thort of using so far is as follows

750(500) (Tyranids)
HQ - 325
Tyranid Pryme (80)

Hive Tyrant (245)
twin-linked dethspitter; wings.

Elites - 357
3 Hive Guard Brood (150)

9 Ymgal Geanstealers (207)

Troops - 60
3 Ripper Swarm (30)

3 Ripper Swarm (30)

The hive tyrant would be removed if I'm defender

6. To me that is a fairly optimal number to assault and kill a Tank and also to tie up a unit for 3 phases.

Depends but against Imperial Guard I use 5 and against Space Marines 7- 8. My opponents often tries to block their deployment so my 2 Ymgarl broods cannot be to large if I want to be able to squeze them in to most area terrain even if there are troops there.

I have 8 due to points constraints, although I can understand wanting more. It really depends what you purpose them for, but I like that number for survivability and more attacks.

Oh and Free, Ymgarl Genestealer broods are Unique, you're only allowed one per army like Special Characters and Imperial Assassins.

I don't believe this to be true. Look on page 89 of the codex and under composition it does not say they are Unique. However if you look under Swarmlord, Doom, Deathleaper & Old One Eye they do.

You may take more than one Brood of Ymgarls. It's an easy mistake to make...

@ OP - I've found 7-8 to be the perfect number. 7 is 161 points which is an odd number, but sometimes makes a 1999 list 2000. 8 has a little more killing power and survivability and is what I usually run in my 2K lists.

I was going to ask why on Earth they put them in the section with all of the special characters.

Then I remembered which idiot made this codex.
