Termagants in spores

What happens to terms in spores , if I drop pod them In , and they scatter on to a unit , my friend reduces the distance to avoid the obstacle , but seeing as they are too close to the unit nearby , they all die right ?

I do not understand the question, so I will just give an example and see if it helps.

Drop the pod and it scatters onto an enemy unit.
You move the pod unit it is 1" away from the enemy unit.
The unit inside then can disembark anywhere that is within 2" of the pod and further than 1" from the closest enemy model and not in impassable terrain.

I think that if you run out of space to deploy models then the models that can not be placed are destroied, not the whole unit. But I have never seen that happen. Spore pods are pretty big and it is really easy to have part of your base within 2".

Actually, with the new disembark rules, you disembark up to 6" away from the Spore I believe.

Nope still 2", the 6" disembark is only for drop pods. Codex still says 2" and they never FAQed the distance.

What happened to me was , my spore landed on a unit of necrons , and then got moved to avoid it , then as they deployed out of the spore , and as they didn't really have room due to the necrons being in the way - my friend says they need to be in circles - about 15 gants died . Because I couldn't get them near the spore .


And out of curiosity - If you deepstrike and get the result where your friend picks where to put it , can he put it right next to the edge of the table edge sO you dOnt have rOom tO deploy ?

When deploying from a Spore or Drop Pod circles are not mandatory; the only stipulation is that all deployed models must be within 2" of the Spore base (or 6" from a Drop Pod.)

You are only forced to deploy in circles if a unit deep-strikes without a pod.

So, with regards to your example, the Pod scatters onto a unit of Necrons, the scatter distance is then reduced my the minimum distance necessary to avoid the obstacle (putting the pod 1" away from the Necrons.) The 'gants now try to disembark; they can be placed anywhere within 2" of the pods base (and 1" away from any models). In theory of the Necrons were placed in some sort of crescent shape they could block off enough of the pods base to prevent gants from deploying, but you'd have to be pretty unlucky.

As for the second question, yes your opponent can deploy the pod anywhere he likes, however even if he sat it at a table corner you'd probably still have plenty of space to disembark 15 gants. Also note that a spore can only mishap if it scatters off the table, otherwise it just avoids obstacles.

I think what your friend means is, that a DSing unit must deploy in circles. In this case *only* the Spore.
After the Deepstrike your termagants disembark from the spore and have to stay, with just a slice of the base, within 2 inch from the spore.

It doesn't matter how you place them, as long as they stay within disembark range.

And yeah, your opponent can place the spore on any place on the board, if you get that mishap. But in most cases you should be able to deploy most of your gants.

Oh and also note, that isn't wholly within 2". As long as any part of the base is within 2" you are good, so termagants have a total of nearly 3" they can deploy in around the spore.

How many Termagants would you be able to place around a spore modelled on a monstrous creature base, presuming you did scatter toward an enemy unit and could not deploy on one side?

You can possibly squeeze one or two more in there with some efficient stacking.

Of course the further the enemy models surround the pod the less guys can get out, but you'd have to be pretty damn unlucky to scatter into some sort of perfect anti-deployment crescent, especially considering the reasonable range on Devourers meaning you don't need to aim all that close.
