GG: it seems Rob Baer, contributor to Bell of Lost Souls and owner of Spikey Bits and FTW Games is closing his brick and mortar store FTW Games in Midlothian, VA. It's one of the most glorious gaming store's I've ever had the pleasure of gracing boasting multiple storefronts, televisions, and one of the most client-rewarding in store credit programs I've ever seen.
It's definitely one of the bigger stores on the east coast of the USA, and it's a tragic blow to the gaming community in the states, and though the Richmond area(Midlothian is outside richmond, VA) has other gaming stores for wargaming they all PALE in comparison to FTW(the next biggest one has like 4 6x4 tables compared to FTW's 15).
The announcement was just made midnight (about 10 hours ago) and the store hours on the FB page were changed to permanently closed. Some closer to Rob's circle of friends(great guy, but I'm definitely not a "close" friend) claim that running the store had become too stressful and was more taxing than rewarding for quite some time to the Mad Boy Genius. There was also some allusion in his cryptic post about possibly moving the store to a new location to try his luck elsewhere or that he knows of another store coming to the area.
I'm really bummed. Our area lost our GW store around 2007 and FTW filled a hole in a way that superseded everyone's expectations. I mean....I'd been to the baltimore battle bunker(before they closed and were eventually turned into an independent LGS), and his store made that store look like an amateur league store on size, community, and content.
Support your LGS. I wish I could have more- I always dropped at least a good $20+ per visit but my visits numbered once or twice a month.
That said I wish Mr. Baer all the luck in the world. He's a great guy, and is still through just the internet a valuable part of the 40k community. I'm sad to see his store go but this is a hobby we play- and just like the rest of us he deserves to be made happy by his hobby.
*sigh* homeless again though(in regards to MY LGS)
Also super sorry to hear that(late) tylertt. Losing a pet is always horrible.

GG: There is a girl at my university that I hang out with all the time and is one of my best friends, I really like her but cant tell if she likes me the same way. We hang out all the time, made sure we live in the same dorm, took all the same classes, and attend all the seminars together. If I ask her out and she says no I'm worried that it will put a strain on our friendship but it is the not knowing that is bugging me.

When a man becomes too good friends with a girl, he always wants her. I think the way our brain is processing this is like "Hey, she is such a good friend. She is worth it, she would make an amazing girlfriend." Because we are looking for a soul mate for our relationship and if she is your best friend then hell, who is a better soul mate than that? The problem is that women are super-ignorant in this way. While some of men and all of psychologists know this, women took a stance where they think this is a stupid urban myth called "Men only become friends with girls they would bang." They dont know it is not a myth and that it work the other way around.

His Ork Mech Guard army was always fresh I hope he does well

I wouldn't say always, there are plenty of people I know who I'm friends with who I don't think of that way, it is just this particular person who I'm not sure about. GG: My grandmother's sense of timing. We'd run out of half and half, and no one was able to go shopping yesterday, so I waited until she was as soundly asleep as she gets, and then headed up to Safeway to get some more. During the less than 20 minutes I was gone, she came completely awake, decided that she couldn't sleep at all and needed cocoa, got up, trashed the kitchen, used up the last of the milk, and lost her glasses. I mention using up the last of the milk because it turns out that this Safeway isn't 24 hours any more, so I wasn't able to get half and half, and the milk would have otherwise gone in her coffee to replace it this morning. This is the only time I've left during the night for longer than the minute or so to take the trash out, the first time in months she's needed anything like that in the middle of the night, and the first time since I've been helping care for her that she's woken up that quickly from being asleep that soundly

You know what grinds my gears? Working nights.
It's not the working part that's bad, or even the staying up all night. No, it's the fact that I have no time to run errands. By the time I get home I just want to go to bed. And when I get up places I've got to go, like the post office, are closed. It never feels like I get anything done.
Oh, and on my days off I can't sleep at night because I'm used to my night shift sleep schedule. It's like insomnia by choice.

I've got a stack of stuff I need to get to the PO to send to people, but I haven't managed to be awake during their hours, because I'm still trying to recover from forcing myself to be up during the day for a 40K tournament last weekend

With my schedule by the time I'm off work everywhere but the grocery store is closed so I have to try and do all my errands on my lunch brake. Night shifts are hard to work with.

I find the worse thing about working Nights is that everyone thinks you don't do anything over night and that your always available during the day because your not at work.
