Right, I'm sure we've all noticed the changes. I view them as quite arbitrary, but I'm a little annoyed I won't be able to skim through really old threads. You know, the threads made when the hive was good.
It's a conspiracy I tells ya! They put stuff in the water that makes you forget!
Deaf-Ear-Bait aside, I was a little surprised when the third community thread was locked. I go to discover the reason, and it was this:

This thread is done.

It was a bad idea to start it in the first place and it is a bad idea to continue it now. The only reason this had a chance in the first place was because trygon was a mod when he started it.

Now, who coulda posted that? Anyway... It occurs to me that there is something just plain wrong here. Firstly, misinformation. Angmar started the Community Thread, not Trygon, and there was no beef from the mods back then about it (or indeed any beef about it at all until this point). Guilt by association this surely ain't.

That aside, this post seems to indicate that The Community Thread was "a bad idea". Who here would agree? Who here would think that the community thread, an outlet for all the stuff that is not deserving of a whole topic, a thread that existed in complete infallibility due to it's distinct lack of topic to deviate from, was a bad idea?

I can think of one member... and I have no idea why they believe what they believe (mostly because there's no reason given for it in the history of tim... oh wait, how can I tell? It's all been deleted without warning).

Anyone else think the community thread is a bad idea? Anyone else think that there's something a little iffy with the way this place is run? Go on, speak up! You're what makes TTH TTH!

i was a little disappointed that the community thread was locked but i'm more than a little annoyed at the reason. so what, we needed someone like trygon to stick up for such an existence. so from this we need a community representative amongst the mods? does that really have to be the case? first of all that enforces a barrier between the staff and the members and it also doesn't seem that fair to the vast majority. you have these few people who look like the control of everything on the forum without everyone else's consent

that being said i see where yori was coming from. i was a mod of a site and usually you need someone to enjoy their job to do this. something like a community thread, a general board or a spam section is rather hard to moderate. because you've got the rules layed out by the administrator verses the fact you've looked like you've established a complete random (please do not swear) area. an extreme case of this is 4chan. moot made it as a image and disscusion site but when '/b/ random' came to exsistance, well - there should have been more rules, lets just say that.

the community thread was a fun place and, although i see why this forum would be better without it, it would also be nice for a consensus or discussion.

Good points, but could you really compare the Community Thread and /b/ in any other regards bar concept? Say "yeah" and I'll ask you to go there... several times... untill it happens...

However, I stand by what I said. The community thread was a bad idea. Once you let people go off topic on one thread it spreads to other threads. That's one of the reason the whole board was reset instead of just the 69 pages after the first.

To be honest, if you and the rest of staff want the general board (off all places, what do real life have to do with Tyranids?) to be on-topic you should delete the whole section, the game board, anything that's not Tyranid related and ban all of us who participated in these sections.
Go ahead, do that.

That aside, on all the forums I've been to which have a general section (all of them mind you) I've never heard such a thing as the concept being 'a bad idea'.

I think the community thread was a good idea. It seemed to be the same group of people posting in the community thread anyway, so it never really caught on to other people posting on other threads.

If you know what I mean. Plus it was fun to read through and see what the fans of TTH and (To an extent) Warhammer are really like when not limited to normal forum guidelines. Guess you could say it added character to the forum as a whole.

Funny you should mention that. There has been debate amongst the moderators on if the General board should be a part of the forum. There is more than one moderator who thinks our forum would be better off without the General board.

And this argument about only being random in the community thread, it's total BS. That thread set the tone for the whole General board. Once you start being off topic on one thread you start being off topic everywhere.

There are those of you out there who wanted a return to the good old days, well this is the price. This forum worked well for years without the community thread and it can do so again.

I wouldn't come here if it wasn't for the general board. It keeps the forum friendly. If I wanted super seriousness I'd stick to Warpshadow or the Warhammer forum. I like this place because the people are close and chat to one another like friends. It's much nicer and more welcoming.

I actually agree with the mods.

I stopped feeling enjoyment of the general section awhile back.

In fact, the only threads read in any regular manner were my own.

I stopped posting unless I really had a point to make and I think it's because the general board just gets exasperating after a point.

Everyone off topic and not willing to have a real coversation that stays on topic even if we are just discussing kittens. (and no meanigful conversations are allowed as they might "offend" someone.

I just lurk about tactics and painting now. I really can't stand what happend to the roleplay board or general.
(The cool kids got to run things and they ran um into the ground)

If general stops existing it will only mean less flame wars on other parts of the forum.

(Yes, I remember Danger flaming another member on the painting board just because he could, and Fungus trolling poor people that he felt were ignorant or dumb)

You have to have a place for all the different creatures.

The mean ones are still cute, they just have to be isolated from the ones that don't want to fight.

So you're saying that the people with good conduct should get a general board with nice things like stickied threads, while the trolls should be banned from that board but instead get one where they do whatever the hell they want?
