I think you have to be an ODST. Or I would have been an elite, all the way.
Mantis started walking forward, breaking away from the group. Clearly, he didn't care if they followed him or not, wherever the hell he was going. He knelt down on a hill top and looked around, then started firing his Covenant Carbine into the valley below. Brutes swarmed out of the trees, surrounded by Jackals and Grunts. He spoke for the first time on this mission so far, saying, "If the Jackals get too close, bash them with your weapon. The energy shield is made to withstand weapon-fire, not brute strength. They're fragile too, so one whack will probably kill 'em. Start firing!"

Name: Freeman Age: 43 Rank:honeraly Discharged Weaponry: A modified shotgun, assault rifle Background: Once an ODST he was honeraly discharged after tacking a brute shot for a commander, he then proceeded to get the commander to a escape pod while facing supierier firepower, His leg was amputated after that. It was soon Replaced by an artificial leg which was 'unfit for combat'. He proceeded to modify his leg till it was more powerful then his real leg, breaking several laws in the proseces. But hey who's complaining?
Armour: Bearly any. Scavenged from city guard, foot troops and other dead men (including an ODST) He has painted his whole Armour in a rough concrete color. His only non damaged piece of equipment is his helmet which is standed except for a speaker and rader built in. He could pick up all non military signals. across the city. He can also randomly connect to certain millitery coms, rarely thoe.
Personality:He's seen it he's fought it He' nearly died for it! After a year of reiciving letters saying that his friends have died n combat he doesn't care any more. Authority means nothing.
Sitting by his com Freeman was flicking threw channels... trying to pick up a signal... anything.... at least that carrier had left... but there are many a covernent. All he wanted to do was here a friendly voice not screaming for help or Horribly dieing. Then the static that filled his helmet for so long died out.... first time in a week (first time in a mouth where someone wasn't dieing or out of ammo)... he turned the volume up..."ade to withstand weapon-fire, not brute strength. They're fragile too, so one whack will probably kill 'em. Start firing!"
Looking out of his makeshift bunker (a destroyed scorpion, a flipped/ripped apart garbage truck and radom bits of metal) he saw a group of ODST firing down at masses of jackles grunts and brutes... there backs was facing him. He picked up a turret he scavenged from some dead guy in a drop pod...
lined up the shot carefully....
Then he started spraying..... Jackles and grunts where falling like flies! It took a few seconds for the brutes work out where the shots where from. A Brute chieften and a few others decided to charge the bunker. They would have been mowed down.... However... The chain gun ran out of ammo.
Freeman turned to his side and activated a switch on the wall.A serious of makeshift explosives went off across the opening. Then the brutes where gone(some red mist remained).... By now the Whole ODST group was firing down into the brutes that where left. He jumped out of the bunker, Shot gun in hand, and bolted up to the ODST position blowing away any brute which got in his way.
By the time he reached thier position the battle was over. He took of his helmet and said
"Whats the current ODST Helmet code... wouldn't mind being able to hear what you guys say"
He would have seemed incredibly heroic.... if he didn't scratch his backside with the shotgun

Freeman jumped as something touched him on the arm. He spun round, but sighed in relief as he saw another ODST. "Hey, what--", but the other marine silenced him, pointing to his side, to a large door. A hunter stood there, waiting and watching for any signs of movement. As Freeman looked at the marine's black armour, he saw a small green insignia. Squinting, he recognised a praying mantis. The marine ever so slowly unholstered his Covenant Carbine, took careful aim and started to blast away at the hunter. It stumbled backwards for a moment, then rushed forward, charging it's fuel rod. Mantis leaned hard again Freeman, pushing him from the edge, down the few metre drop, then ducked and rolled, moving under the hunter's legs. In confusion, it looked around wildly, and Mantis took the opportunity to calmly walk up to it and plant a frag grenade in it's armour. "Die, you (please do not swear).", he said quietly, before leaping off the edge, after Freeman.
OOC: Mantis is a man of few words, but he has a sixth sense of sorts.

Mantis jumps off the ledge... landing on the second hunters back.... Freeman pumps a couple rounds of shotgun shells into it as it spins around trying to hit mantis off it's head. "Brilliant landing!" shouts Freeman as he throws a grenade to Mantis who once again plants it in the beast and jumps off as it blows apart....
"I've herd of a grenade jump... but that's ridicules" laughs Freeman.... "hay i got another one, if you can't beat them! De-join them!.... But seriously nice hit...."

Mantis said nothing, moving over to the torn-apart corpse of a hunter. He kicked the shredded head, saying quietly, "Rest in pieces.". He then turned to Freeman and said firmly, "Move. Now. East. Towards the others.", and pushed him forward, holding up the rear and scanning the buildings with his Carbine.

Tekkie ran forward to the pod he had just seen hit the ground, after a couple minutes of running he met the other two ODSts and waved.

Mantis remained silent, eyeing the other ODST. Then he spoke, "You don't get out much, do you? Do you even have radar? I don't. I don't seem to need it. For example, that Jackal over there, hiding in the shadows? I'm surprised you two haven't heard him yet. He's calling for reinforcements."

A single shot silenced the Jackal permanently as he tried to call, but Tekkie's shot had happened too fast

Mantis shrugged again, and started to walk towards the general direction indicated by Tekkie. He looked all around him as he moved forward, constantly scanning the area around him. Apparently satisfied, he shouldered his carbine and continued walking, albeit at a quicker pace now.

octaves was only a few feet from the humans now. he fingered his energy sword as he watched them move. "the one called mantis seems to have powers not unlike the forerunners" he said to himself.

Mantis started to look around slowly, looking confused. Inside his helmet (in halo 2, first level, when you're in space the first time, and in the second airlock, there's a dead guy with armour that looks like spartan, it's black, but it isn't spartan. Is that an ODST? coz I look like him, with full body and head armour. Black armour), he smiled, then turned to look directly at Octaves position. "Come out, come out, wherever you are...", he said coyly, unholstering his Covenant Carbine. "You can run, but you can't hide.". To the others, Mantis appeared to be talking to himself, but then they saw him focusing on one particular spot and raised their weapons. He stepped forward, almost coming within range of a flying leap with a plasma sword, then stopping. He lowered his Carbine and started to detach his helmet. His short, spiky blonde hair was frizzed, and his blue eyes seemed to bore into Octaves'. His face was for the most part unmarred. He said quietly, "Come out, elite. I know you're there.", before putting his helmet back on and raising his Carbine again.
