So, the Nid codex is still a ways away and hopefully we've all been enjoying the sizable buffs 8th edition has brought (even if they aren't perfect). But, since we've got time to kill and we're past the initial adjustment period, what are some specific wishes you'd like out of the new Codex? Doesn't have to be practical (we're probably not getting new models) but try to keep it balanced (no 5 pt. carnifexes)
POINTS
- I'd like to see the Prime come down to at least half of where's he's at. The Malanthrope is just always better, unless you're running heavy Warriors.
- Tyrants could probably stand to lose 20 points off their cost, unless they get some better baked-in protection
- Tervigons are probably overcosted by 50 points or more, since they are definitely not getting protections
- Tyrannofex could use a good 20-40 pt drop, since the Exocrine is just so much better mechanically.
- Given how good Ork Boyz are, how mighty IG orders are, and the increased melee capabilities of the other codex armies, I'd like to see Hormagants come down by 1 pt. More swarm!
MODELS
- Haruspex costs too much, but I'm not sure what the fix is, since you don't want to bring him to Carnifex level points. Maybe more attacks? Maybe more wounds?
- I'd love Pyrovores to be moved from 1-3 to 3-6. They're great in a Tyrannocyte, but so limited currently!
- Deathleaper and Lictors could use some kind of buff (+2 attacks?) or just make them 1-3 unit size like before?
- Would be great to buff Gargoyles. Can't reduce their cost very much, so how about a "Hard to Hit" defense? Or double their shooting? Or old-style poisoned charge?
- Venomthropes are kind of pointless with the Malanthrope, so fix the aura or consider making them way faster, to keep up with Genestealers. 8" at least
- The Maleceptor is a mess. Either make it the Super Psyker Bug (like Magnus level) or knock its price down by half (or more).
- I really wish Zoanthropes were 1-6 instead of 3-6. Or that they could raise dead Zoans with the Neurothrope.
- Let's fix Crushing Claws more in line with Stonecrusher carnifexes. Crushing should be the first and best choice for big ole Carnifexes, not a last resort.
RULES
- Definitely want one of those "your troop choice comes back at full strength" strategems.
- I wish Shadow In The Warp went out to 24". It's supposed to be a big deal, but at 8", it has NEVER come up in any games I've played.
- I'd love to get more biomorph options. Having 0-2 choices for our units is hardly the "evolution" focus.
- Not that I don't love the characters who buff units of their type, but it would be useful to have at least one aura that buffed everything, like most other factions have.
- Catalyst and Horror are great, but does anybody actually use Onslaught? Advancing is done in the Movement phase, not the shooting phase, so you have to commit to the Advance and just HOPE you get the spell off or you're out of luck. Seems like an oversight left around from the previous rules, where Running was in the shooting phase. Maybe just have this spell give a bonus d6" move as part of its effects?
- Gotta get a Hive Fleet trait that treats your monsters as current wounds x2 for Degradation charts. That's some sweet, sweet candy.
- I'd like another Hive Fleet trait prevent enemies from Falling Back out of combat (kind of like Skarbrand's aura). That might be too strong for a 'whole army' buff, so maybe only certain units?
- It's unlikely, but I'd like some way of disabling the enemy's Overwatch without having to take a Magus every time.
FLAVOR
- It'd be fun if the enemy had to kill ALL of your synapse creatures to get credit for the "Kill the Warlord" objective. I mean, they're all part of one big hivemind, afterall.
- I wish Old One Eye had his Get Back Up special rule. Something about having that Evil Dead moment where everybody is freaking out over if he'll surge back to life for horrible vengeance.
- I know Nids don't get many characters because it's counter to the 'disposable swarm' identity, but that's no reason the Hive Mind couldn't create some more unique configurations to deal with very specific and pernicious threats. Like, maybe a 'lightning rod' that reduces d3 damage to 1 and d6 damage to 3. Or a psychic screaming character that reduces enemy 'aura' abilities by 1/2 their normal radius.
- Man, I saw the IG's "Preliminary Bombardment" strategem, and I was reminded of the Spore Rain rule from one of the earlier codexes (2nd? 3rd?). It's literally how Hive Invasions start, so how 'bout getting somma dat.
- Might be cool to have a "Spawning Pool" style fortification. Use the Poxwalker rules, but in a radius around the pool: rippers eat the dead models, toss themselves in the pool, and then the biomass gets reconstituted into new nids for whatever troop unit is within range.
