So rather than start an identical thread, I decided I'd necro this one.
Had a rematch of sorts against the same guy as last time, except this time he allied his IK with Space Wolves. The results were...well... Nids pretty much dominated. I owe this victory to the gods of dakka and RNGesus, it took me a while to listen to everyone's advice here, but I enlisted my very first newly built/painted Dakkafex and used my almost completely painted 2nd Flyrant. I should also mention this guy who I play doesn't seem to build very strong SW lists, he does much better when he plays BA or Tau against me.
I am now a convert to the church of dakka, the sheer weight of fire blew my mind at what these things can do.
TLDR - dakka is awesome, if opponents don't bring anti air, FMCs will wreck them.
Matchup
Nids 1500 points (1497)
HQ
2x Flyrant TWLDVS eGrubs
Troops
30x gants (3 devourers)
Tervigon + eGrubs
Elite
3x Zoans
3x Hive Guard
1x Venomthrope
Fast
1x Crone
Heavy
1x Dakkafex w/adrenal (I bow down and am not worthy to the bargain this unit presents)
I didn't run single Zoans because couldn't double FoC and don't play unbound.
His List
I'm going to have epic fail moment because I can't remember unit names.
Imperial Knight
Njaal Stormcaller
Rune Priest
Rhino looking thing with big large blast gun and a dozer blade? (roughly 120 points name?)
2x units of 5 Longfangs
2x units of 10 Grey Hunters
1x unit of 5 elites??? (SM with the heavy bolters)
Dawn of War, Big Guns Never Tire, 4 objectives on board almost evenly spaced along the Dawn of war dividing line
I deployed went first
He had pretty much no anti air so I went super aggressive with everything.
T1
Moved gants towards one objective
Spawned another group onto another objective
I decided to ignore his knight and focus on taking out the longfangs to keep them from going after Tervigon/dakkafex and other ground troops
Psychic Phase is where RNGesus showed up.
Flyrants Fex and Crone move as fast as possible, 1 Flyrant also gives dakkafex onslaught and he also is able to get into range.
Zoans barely in range of grey hunters, throw their blast at them, all 3 connect with direct hits and completely wiped out a unit of 10 grey hunters.
First blood is mine
Flyrant #1 and Dakkafex throw all their fire at the longfangs in ruins, kill 1 squad
Flyrant #2 takes out 3 of the other longfangs leaving only 2 of their nasty rockets on the table.
Crone decides that it would rather tentaclid the tank than the IK, turns out good choice, 1 hit, a 6 and vehicle damage which ended up disabling its large cannon, essentially turning it into an armored bolter... yeah good luck so far this turn.
SW T1
He tried to manifest psychic powers, but I had like 14 denial dice... so no powers for him.
His grey hunters move into rapid fire range of my Crone, The smaller unit of 5 with the heavy bolters also decides the Crone was priority 1.
Crone takes 4 wounds, but passes grounded test at end of shooting phase. Survives w/1 wound!
Remaining 2 longfangs put 2 wounds on Dakkafex OUCH!
IK decides the juicy clustered Zoans are priority #1 for the large blast, Direct hit, but invuln save sees 2/3 survive, 1 suffers instant death. Venomthrope got held up by slow moving traffic and is also casualty of pie plate.
2nd blast scatters onto the backside of dakkafex, 1 more wound, Poor dakkafex's first game ever and he's already down to 1 wound.
Nothing to be assaulted.
Nids T2
With longfang threat neutralized and the tank's large blast taken out of picture I decide to turn attention to the imperial Knight.
Movement per what you'd expect
Psychic RNGesus to the rescue again.
Zoans which are barely in lance range take aim at the Knight, 2 hits, 2 pens, 1 "explodes" resulting 2HP, so 3 HP removed total.. Zoans doing work this game
Shooting phase
Flyrant who took out longfangs shoots IK in back, dakka glances off 2 more HP
Crone decided to fail, both tentaclids missed.
Flyrant #2 is out of range so instead finishes off the longfangs.
On to the assault Phase.
After hearing everyone talk about how great the Carnifex is against vehicles...after seeing it for myself, your love of the dakkafex isn't SHOUTED loudly enough!
Dakkafex makes it into assault with the IK, and I roll D3 (5) for 3 HoW attacks. 2 of these connect and deal the final blow, the combat is over before it really even started. The IK never gets to swing its crazy Sword.
At this point I had also claimed 3/4 of the objectives.
After top of my T2, I had cleared out/disabled most of his hard hitting units and I could tell he was ready to call it. I have no need to wipe someone off the map/table them. So since the wives expected us to be playing for yet another hour or so we decided instead that Pub was a better use of our time
. One thing we both agreed on, is the latest FAQ that removed the SW psychic powers did them no favors. And until they get a refresh or ally something with anti-air they probably have very little chance against a FMC heavy nid list. Luckily it looks like that refresh is just on the horizon.
