Hey, how ya doin'?
So the new orders are out.
Take Aim - The unit shoots with the Precision Shot special rule.
Smite At Will (Because 'smite' is more grimdark than 'fire'?) - The unit gains Split Fire.
FRF, SRF! - Exactly the same as before.
Forwards, For The Emperor - The unit may shoot and then run.
Move, Move, Move - Same as before.
Suppressive Fire - The unit gains the Pinning rule.
I'm not exactly over the moon. We're losing the three best orders from the current codex: Bring It Down, Fire On My Target and Get Back In The Fight. Split Fire is nice and I'm not sure what to make of Precision Shot just yet but the rest are pretty naff. Plus they all seem very infantry themed. I can't see many of these orders being given to Heavy Weapons Teams or anything.
On a personal note, I don't like the names of the new orders either. Smite At Will? What the heck does that mean? You'd think Split Fire would be a much more specific sounding order than just, "Do whatever, I guess". They could have just as easily kept the name Fire On My Target but changed the rules. Bring It Down and Move, Move, Move sound like the sort of thing you'd imagine a Commander yelling at his men in the heat of battle. It helped convey that really human element in the army that gives IG their character. They're clear and concise in their meaning. Smite and Forward For the Emperor just sound kind of stupid. I mean, okay, we get it. The Imperium is archaic and gothic, but you don't need to force it into every single thing in the game. It just makes them sound like a parody villain in a Terry Pratchett novel.
