Astra Militarum (New Imperial Guard) Codex

Hey, how ya doin'?

Confirmed in White Dwarf!

I'm not sure how to feel about this... The name change is superficial I know (even though to me it sounds downright ridiculous) but with Guard being a codex I love and think still holds up to this day, and the disaster that was 6th Ed Tyranids... I'm fearing any and all bad omens. Still, rumour mongering time!

Imperial Guard will take up a 3 week release slot.- Week one is up for preorder with the March 22nd White Dwarf.Week 1: three kits:- Ogryns/Bullgryns plastic combo-kit (one unit with ranged weapons, the other with giant shields and close combat weapons)- Stormtroopers/Veterans combo-kit- Unseen "Big transport" kit.This new vehicle is said to be able to move entire squads of Ogryns and other stuff (so apparently more transport space than the Chimera). This kit is said to be roughly Land Raider sized. Previous "big tank" chatter over a month ago has also described it as being influenced by the Forgeworld Malcador's design.

What really puzzles me is the 'Militarum Tempestus' codex. It doesn't say supplement beneth the name, so it really appears to be a secondary codex released alongside the primary one, Astra Militarum? And yes, both are pretty goofy names. If they had actually renamed their precious Space Marines to Adeptus Astartes, I would gladly embraced this change In any case, I'm really anxcited (that is anxious and excited) about this. I face off against IG regularly so I'm hoping they get treated well (but not too well, heh). Also that Taurox thing looks like a bizarre mix of a money transport and a tank. With tank treads as wheels... Yeah... Guessing this is the rumored Ogryn transporter.

Yeah...I can see the potential for conversion from some of the orky guys at the shop.


What makes me so excited about the guard is the potential to use a ton of the other mini ranges out there. I'd just buy up a few different armies from other systems....assuming that they look similar enough, and play them as a single guard army (especially Raging Heroes). If your regular opponents aren't model purists, then its almost like having your cake....and eating it too. You get a cool looking guard army, and have enough of a base to start other game systems.

Interesting, I can see the appeal there. Also, Guards along Orks has got to be the most flexible army in terms of conversions and using crazy stands-in units. The broken allies matrix aside, I also really like how Guard are available to a lot of armies. Truth be told, I'm kind of hoping for a Genestealer Cult Supplement, with an unique kit of gross hybrids to boot. Not so much for the prospect of getting access to Guardsmen armory, but the aestethic and fluffiness I really like.

I sent the link to a friend who plays both IG and Orks. He says it is much more Orky.

He is coining the phrase "Ogryn short bus" for the transport.

In my opinion it is the uglies GW model in a while.

I am wondering about the two codexes. If they are both codexes and not suplements then that is 3 Imperial codexes in a row.

Which is clearly not enough.

In the grim dark future, there is only THE IMPERIUM. There are some aliens too, so the Imperium has something to kill when its bored fighting itself.

Militarum Tempestus I'm guessing is a Storm Trooper Army, based on the pictures. At 72 Pages and Online Only, that sounds like a Supplement to me rather than a full Dex. Hopefully they'll get some cool and better gear, rather than just hideously overpriced AP3 Lasguns.

Still no specific word on a Girffon/Medusa/Colossus kit or Rough Riders, apparently?

I'm not too worried about the IG getting hosed. They've had phases of better or worse, but I don't think they've ever had a truly bad Dex.

Ogryns are still going to be garbage unless that thing is an Assault Transport.

From the sound of the text there are going to be ogryns with combat shields. That sounds like it could be nasty. HAve them go out front to soak up damage.

Depends on what the combat shields actually do, and how much they cost. If they get Storm Shields for a reasonable price, that could be pretty good. If it's something like "Armour Save becomes 4+ when in CC", or they end up being like 60 Points per Model with them, they'll suck.

Hehe, I can totally see that happen. I'm guessing a lesser Storm Shield equivalent on those rumored Bullgryns, though. The curious thing about the Tempestus Militarum is that it doesn't say "An Imperial Guard Supplement" on the cover, unlike, say, the Crimson Slaughter that was just announced. So either this is a stand alone codex or they are just moving in a new direction with their way of branding the books. Seems kind of crazy, but what do I know.

Not too thrilled with those Ogryns, look pretty goofy to me. So they'll harmonize pretty well with the vehicle, I guess. Also the Hydra at the bottom is new? I can't tell IG vehicles apart.
