The Hunger - Tyranid army wide rule

Hello All,

This our fix, not saying it will be taken up by anyone one else, not trying to say its perfect but we are a very causal gaming group who have been playing since Rogue Trader.

Army Wide Rule:
The Hunger - Tyranids seek to devour all before them and can barely contain their visceral feeding instincts.  All Tyranids may assault after running. This Army Wide Rule can not be utilised after arriving from reserve. 

Edit:
The Hunger can not be used on the first player turn.
Design note: this represents the Tyranids getting the sent of the enemy before moving into full devour mode.

We threw in a few other rules for specific units but I don't want to go into a bunch of house rules that many will probably not really like. 

So what do you think?

Hardly OP for any army without transports, assault vehicles, drop pods and major issues getting into close combat and catching fast armies.

Its no more OP then Battlefocus, Helldrake, Wave Serpents, etc. (Not that battlefocus is OP at all, but saying Run+Charge is OP is comparable to battlefocus.)

If you wanted to make it more balanced however, give this rule to any model with fleet only. And Hormagaunts would obviously loose their run bonus and maybe have the older one applied.

Would actually have been such a easy rule to implement and keep from being broken.. Actually give us some unique flavor as well too.

I feel it harks back to the original tyranid play style and keeps with the fact that tyranids are a close combat army .
Its a good rule
Battlefocus gives eldar run and shoot
tau get that cover fire thing ( cant remember what it is called)
Tyranids run and assult , it fits right in
maybe not for every unit perhaps but then again.....
It also gives stealers and hormagaunts an ability that they lack in a shooting rules game.

2 army wide rules i though would be great is "all tyranids get +2" to their movement and +1" to their run and have move through cover" (i know most of our army already has move through cover but all of it should) and synapse also confers preferred enemy (everything)

so horms would get +4" run, gargs would get 14" movement and so on. it would also stack on rolls for movement

if the +2" is too OP +1" could be good. i wanted to divide up where you got them so our gun boats wouldn't get a huge range boast with out running and sacrificing their shooting for that turn; and it would add more synergy to onslaught.

I would also add that you can't Charge after running on the first Player Turn. Sort of like with Infiltrate and Scout, there are restrictions on almost everything that opens up the possibility of a First Turn Charge unless your Opponent does something stupid.

i like thornoo's rule. It is very simple and moving them still feels like moving infantry. It would remove all the problems that carnifexes have with catching the vehicles they are supposedly designed to charge in close combat, and generally remove the massive speed problems that tyranids have always had (well except for hormagaunts, raveners and flying mcs obviously)

Yeah...
although technically 1st turn charge is perfectly viable to do with biovores. Although overwatch can usually protect a squad from it.

If run roll of 6 hunger activates..would tone it down a bit

Not OP at all. This was the most expected change I thought was coming (and some protection from overwatch). Instead we don't get run-assault, just run-shoot (when Eldar get it on all models and can choose which to do first, we may get it randomly and have to pass a test for it) nor do we have any kind of way to ignore overwatch (but CSM can get it). Just more stuff that ties into a nice ball of WTF with this codex.

That's a good suggestion. I'll edit the original post

If only...

I get that people point at Synapse and go: "There's your armywide special rule", but not only is it far from a new thing, but it has increasingly become something you have to do to avoid something bad, rather than to get something good. It's a very integral of both fluff and crunch as should be, but with the prevlance of Fearlessness (and ridiculous shooting) a new rule like The Hunger honestly would have fit in perfectly.
