Necron list that ate my tyranids.

This list eat my Tyranid list for dinner in a play test last week.
Was wondering what you are think of it. and how you build a tyranid list to counter. I have found Necrons to be a hard fight for tyranids. Has anyone found this to be true?

The list it is CC oriented with a decent amount of shooting. I like the different threats the list gives and with some deepstrking to it it packs a lot of punch- counter punch.

List one is with the stormlord.( I am not a big fan of this guy but he lets me get to where I need to be with the chance of extra damage.) I have a veil for the storm and a warrior unit to bounce around if need be.

yup, wraiths and annihilation barges, what i predicted as soon as the codex came out. Both are extremely undercosted to the point of breaking the codex, but wraiths are so hard to find people dont run them yet.

Barges- not that tough to kill but so effective for the cost. Zoans drop them fast as do MCs.

Wraiths- not sure what to do about them. 3+ inv says HG are kind of wasted on them, whips say stealers are less effictive and S6 rending says MCs would be in a tough fight. Massed hormies or devourers seem to be all we have. the problem is that these things are so cheap. 10 wounds 3+ inv for only 185 points plus a few cheap upgrades.


pretorians are cool and with a destroyer lord they are tough as nails. Stealers still take them down pretty well though.

Everythingelse can be delt with by stealers or zoans. 9 zoans in pods, swarmlord walking and tyrand flying(ds in) , 50+ stealers, 30 hormies and this list should be pretty easy to take care of. night fighting is pretty much negated by that list

it looks like a swarm slaughterer id go with nidzilla and maybe genestealers istead of warriors but it is insanely good

I love using Triarch Praetorians, they are full on brutally under used. Good at killing just about anything but swarms. And in a squad of 8 could most likely wipe an average termi squad with easy of shooting and assault. Those wraiths are mean but keep plinking them with hiveguard. They still have a 1/3 chance of auto dying per wound with HG.

Help me out. I fail to see the value of triarch praetorins. Not being rude, just trying to learn where they are so powerful as nobody I've played against has taken them. I see a 40pt model that has only a 3+ save. Nice shooting weapon for melting elite infantry, but it has a stupidly short range. This means (to me) that you have to DS right next to the target and risk a mishap or walk them into range. I guess they could hijack a vehicle. Even when in range, a 320pt 8 man squad is only killing 4 or 5 enemy models. If they are able to target termies or something really juicy I guess its good. Realy situational though. Seems like they would suck in combat too. Sure it has a power weapon, but WS4 and 1 attack?

Help me out there because I'm looking to get into 'crons and what to know what folks are using them for.

with a destroyer lord with res orb:
its a jump inf that is T5 S5 with a 3+ then 50% chance of coming back, effectively making it a 2+/4+. They have either power weapons with close range shooting, or even better, S6 pistols, entropic strike, and rending with another attack. There is a reason no marines terminators have jetpacks, they would be silly at 40 points. thats what these things are.

PS, never deepstrike them. they are fast enough on foot that they dont need it and the mishap chance is stupid for a unit like this.

Ah, forgot they were jump infantry. That does help them out a bit. So, are the 6/5 pistols better than the 6/2 rods then? Is the extra attack worth giving up the power weapon?

well, rod is 5/2 at 6" range. most of the time you wont be close enough to get them all in and you have no AT capability besides the lord. With void blade and particle caster you can punch armor 10/11 with the pistols at 12" range and are 3A rending entropic on the charge. You lose power weapons, but with 3A on the charge you can deal with hordes better and rending entropic allows you to deal with characters, MCs, and vehicles. even vehicles that move 6 will see 15 hits from 5 guys, 7.5 hit, 4 reduce armor, making a rear armor 10 vehicle armor 6 and about 6 pens after that. even armor 14 goes to 10 and you pen 3 times, averaging a destroyed land raider on the change. TH/SS termies could only glance that land raider.

Also makes character/IC hunting a lot of fun. one failed save and they die in the next round of combat without an armor save. Even if the squad is largely reduces they still have a huge threat value on vehicles and characters making them into a much larger priority and taking fire off the rest of your army.

^^ This. They are insanely good vehicle slayers. Their power weapons are decent, but the extra attack + entropic strike means that they can feel good assaulting ANY unit in the game except hordes. Don't forget this is not a marine stat line either, they are T5 making them tougher to wound. Taking a destroyer lord with warscythe and res orb makes these guys extremely flexible with solid staying power. There has never been a game that a vehicle has survived my assault. They are fast and quite durable with a destroyer lord. I love them.

This may be because the guy who plays necrons at my local club can't play them amazingly, but I find it increadably easy to beat a cc orientated necron list. They're all I2 (nearly) and all you need is for them to fall back and all loses actually STAY dead, (except IC). I like to run hive commander Tyrant, with Hormaguant + Genestealer troops, along with rending ravenors, gargoyles, and trygons. Ran + Mawloc last week. That was fun when I managed to get a decent 75% of an immortal squad eaten and they ran away. But here's my tip before I start wandering off topic:

Assault, and assault with numbers, or armour save negators.

The only thing about Necrons that scare me on paper, is the AV 13 wall (with AV 11 rear). A friend is picking them up, looking forward to get some games in soon.

With wraith being feerless and 3+ save I2 is not that big of a deal. As you can tell the list doesn't havea lot of troops. I'll have to try the swarmlord vs this army as my reserve style didin't work at all.

The lychuard unit is just nasty i hit with two 10 man squads of toxic stealers and they just bounced right off of it. Thier two attacks back 3+/4+ make them hard to chew thew. In return they kill with every roll of a 3. Just nasty.
Over all tough army just wondering what other armys would give this list a hard time. Necron are usally shooty, This one not so much.

The worst Necron army I have seen is a Lord spam list; 2x Overlords with 5 lords each, everyone has Warsycthes, 2+/3++, Mindshackle Scarabs, sometimes tesseract labyrinths, always at least one Res Orb. Throw in a choice few Crypteks (either maxing out the S8 shots or a mix of wargear to allow for Veils of Darkness/Seismic Crucibles/Lightning Fields etc.) The remainder of the points go into minimum troops and maybe you can squeeze in an Annhilation Barge or two.

It's expensive as anything but those squad will not die and they will destroy anything they hit. Vs. elite infantry/MCs mindshackle scarabs ensure half the attacks are nullfied and the enemy does wounds to themself, plus potential wounds from lightning field and any ICs can get sucked into labyrinths. Then they've got to deal with 2+/3++ before facing a bunch of S7 power weapons. So long as the entire squad isn't wiped they've got a 50% chance to get right back up next. Plus that's only one of the retinue squads.

The only way I can see of beating them in combat as hordes of Genestealers, but if you bounce of the 2+/3++/4+ then you're pretty much boned. Shooting it's a little easier as they're not fearless so there's a chance to make them flee, but if they've brought a chronometron they can use that to re-roll one of the Ld dice and with a Veil of Darkness you won't get that many turns to shoot at them...

Lycheguard, Praetorians and Wraiths die from mass attacks/shooting.
Warriors, scarabs and the vehicles die from assault.

what's so hard?
