Bigpig - I love the look of your Nids! the colour makes me think of an insect alien race. . . . TYRANIDS! good work.

Poisonfrog13 - DAMN! detail dude, the LoTR models are sweet (hope they are LoTR lol) from what i can see the gaunts look pretty seet with that green too! goodluck!

Timdp - I dont even know what to say, aye. they are the most brightly coloured nids i have EVER seen, they look amazing! are they all conversions? or and older codex? i have never seen these before. none the less dude awesome job, great choice colour (i dont normally like bright nids) only thing dude, the eyes... i see alot of people miss the eyes and for me, its a small detail but makes a HUGE difference.

Obsidian did amazing Warmachine paint jobs.
Bigpig has a nice simple scheme and pulls it off amazingly.
Poisonfrog13 has pretty nice LOTR figures.
Timdp was able to pull off link with using new and old models converted.

Thanks Sloth. The figs are first edition plastic (12/1990) and metal (1/1992) Tyranid Warriors with current plastic Warrior tails, legs and weapons added.

You are right on the eyes. Been painting 40k figs for a long time and have never painted eyes because human sized faces are too small for it to matter much. But the Warriors are much bigger and it does matter... oops! Still have no idea what color to paint the eyes though.

I'll have to vote when I'm not so bleary eyed from long hours of painting, but awesome for sure.

For anyone who likes the mud I did on the bases, I posted a quick tutorial over on the converting/terrain forum. I learned quite a bit playing with it and plan to do some more.

Been away for a bit with work, however a quick pop back and comp looks good. All entries where great with two really standing out for me.

Bigpig and Timdp love the green colour scheme from Bigpig and really enjoyed seeing the old warriors again!

Wow, really rough choice this competition! I had a really difficult time choosing.

BigPig: Your models look sweet! I love your work on color grading.

PoisonFrog: I really like the work you did and I feel that your camera/lighting doesn't do your work justice. I didn't think it would make a big difference, but going up to natural lighting, even supplemented by artificial light, really helps. I can see that you did some nice highlighting, but I really have to search for it b/c of the lighting.

Timdp: Both your conversion work and your painting are top notch. On my first look at your stuff, I didn't even realize you blended old and new pieces together. You did a great job of making the conversion work look natural.

Oh, quick couple of questions for you Timdp:

1. How did you make your boneswords? I love the look of them

2. What colors and method did you use on your blue? I was thinking about restarting my Dark Elves army using a blue in my color scheme and I really like the way yours turned out.

The blue-violet is a jumbled mish-mash at this point. Still evolving the paint color. It starts with a mix of GW purple and blue washes. This was too transparent over the pink/white drybrush/purple/red GW wash that covers the rest of the fig, so I started adding a little blue and purple paint to make it more opaque. It works ok, but its thinner than paint an thicker than a wash so its hard to paint accurately. Not much help I'm afraid.

First drybrush color is a medium blue violet and the final drybrush is a lightened version of this color.

Boneswords are made of 1/8' x 1/4"+white styrene.

Bonesword prototype

Cut deathspitter of off plastic deathspitter arm and clean up. Using a jeweler's saw cut the arm out of the early metal bonesword arm and clean up.


Cut off old bonesword and make a new one out of 1/8" x 1/4" +styrene using a stiff steel wire brush wheel in a Dremel/Foredom tool. Will be making 16 of these swords and each one will be unique. Brass rod goes through sword, hilt and hand for strength.



Assembled with other comparison swords. Still need to do a little putty blending of the sword to the hilt.
