So i am deciding on a colour scheme for the army...
As a prelude, my army list generally includes masses of Termagants/Hormagaunts with the occasional Stealer, Flying Tyrant and Warriors, Raveners and, rarely, anything non Biovore (i don't like the look of Biovores, so they aren't included in the army).
Apart from a camo scheme (kinda the opposite of what Wolffang posted img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Wolf_Fang/Tyranids/Gauntcopy.jpg: a mid brown body with the Carapace being mid to dark green) or a scheme based on the Marmosians from Ascendancy (www.epsiloneridani.com/images/empire/marmosian.jpg), both colour schemes would come under the Hive Fleet Name of Marmosian, i am seriously considering having a sort of Wasp themed scheme because of the wasps that live around my place. I really wish i had an image of them... they keep flying away before i get a chance to get a non blurred shot of them... here is a close approximation of the colours on a different type of wasp www.whatsthatbug.com/images/spider_wasp_huntsman_ian.jpg (I don't think that the wasps i have around here are of this type, ours are paper or mud wasps, but the colours are similar). This colour scheme would be Hive Fleet Vespid (Vespid being to Wasps as Canine is to Dogs or Feline is to Cats) or possibly Polistes to avoid confusion with the Tau unit Vespid (Polistes being the Genus of the Wasp family that i think that our wasps belong to)
Anyhew...
I was wondering if there were any pictures out there of Striped Tyranids. I read somewhere on here that they don't look as good as the basic 'colour the carapace one colour and the skin another' option...
I scanned in and quickly (via that technological marvel that is Paint) came up with a colour scheme that looked ok and seems to be what i am after. These are the pictures that i came up with:
(I'd rather have Hormagaunts instead of Termagants here because that's what i'd like, but they aren't fortunate enough to get their picture in the codex... )
I also figure that the stripes will make the gaunts seem more numerous in much the same way as Zebra stripes make them difficult to count (or brightly coloured taxis seem more numerous through a city) and the bigger beasties seem more terrifying in the way that only Tyranids can . It's kinda similar to the images in the rulebook and here uk.games-workshop.com/apocalypse/collecting-troops/1/, but somewhat different at the same time. I gave the full colour carapaces a bit of a go but didn't like the way they turned out.
The general idea is to colour every second carapace piece, every second rib, every 'airhole' and all 'muscle tissue' on the limbs orange, the tongue & eyes red and the rest black (as an aside, what would go well with the claws and teeth? I quickly tried reds, orange and white, but none seemed to work quite so good... maybe a blending of red on the tips/blades going to black or white? not sure...).
As an alternative, I do like the way that Vigilant did their carapaces (i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/mockingbird_11/P1000522-1.jpg) and i am also thinking of that.
So... yeah. Does anyone have a swarm/link to a swarm with a similar sort of Striping scheme? I just want to see how it looks en mass before i decide.
EDIT
As an aside, why is there no 'How to Post Pictures' sticky here but there is one in the 'Other Stuff/General' forum...? I would have thought the painting and modelling section would have needed it more
