Looking for Painting Advice with Red

Hi there.....

My scheme is a red body with Leviathon (black carapace with purple highlights) coloured carapace.

Basically i'm looking for some advice on a few painting issues i've come up against. Bear in mind i only really have access to GW paints.

I'm basecoating in black, painting over that with Malachite Red then Red gore.

Small highlights with blood red work ok but i'm coming up against problems on the larger models with larger highlights that the step from Red gore to blood red is too drastic and creates big lines and a very orange looking model.

Was thinking of blending a pot of Red Gore and Blood red to use as an intermediary step......

Advice, tips ideas?

thats exactly what you should do. mix a midium betweeen the 2 and use that

yep, although I personally prefer dramatic layering (maybe cos I'm kinda lazy) and go straight from mechrite red to blood red, then highlight very slightly with blazing orange, but I don't think you want orange...Another thing I've done is go red gore, the blood red, then wash it with brown ink to make it darker

Totally ideal in any case of the word, But if you want it showcasy, try using 2 parts red gore to 1 part blood red for highlights in shaded areas and leave it alone after that, and then as you ease into more lighted areas start adding 1 to 1 red gore/blood red then to 2 part blood red 1 part red gore, and for finality to stay in scheme for your army in the spectral areas, where light is most prominant hit it with blood red alone, this will create a soft ease of blend from one color to the next, it will hide the lines between the two as long as you water your paint down a bit, and the limitations on blood red will keep the orangey fell out of it.

And remember, orange is only your enemy if you are figting necrons. and even then res oranges are beatable.
