Hive Fleet Prodigy - The Beginning

Hoi, as some of you have read in the tactics section I'm revisiting my 40k roots and have decided instead of the Monkeigh, this time to head for the 'nids. Right! Not I've done the intro, enjoy some (please do not swear) gaunts done by myself. Constructive criticism welcomed. I have touched up a few since these photos have taken, but advise always welcome.








Colour Scheme: Undercoated Black, Dark Grey Foundation Paint used over the skin, Dark Red Foundation used over the carapace, build up of the Orange and the Yellow Foundation on the edges of the carapace/claws. Yellow used for Tongue and will be used for BioSack things if I ever put any on. Light Grey used for the Eyes, and white for the teeth. Watered down black painted into the recesses.

I like the scheme, and they are not (please do not swear) at all. Nice and neat, and the scheme would we awesome on some lava bases. Or scorched earth. Very aggressive looking in any case. I would say another highlight on the grey would be nice, but perhaps you can skimp on that with your broods, and save it for the bigger stuff.

Wow. i took a look at these and said (please do not swear). that is my scheme too! the way i'm doing it is similar just with more colors. I have primed in black then wash (with floor finisher) of dark grey and dry bush codex grey. then i paint the "danger" bits and carapace with dark flesh and progressively smaller layers of red scab, blood red, fiery red, orange, lighter orange, golden yellow.

this is very similar to yours but i found the grey wash to be to bright so i'm going to mix in some chaos black into it and that will make the dry brush highlight even more.

Well looks like i'm not the only one brilliant ideas come to.

Very striking and neat.

The one thing I would say is to use a darker grey, but that's minor and could just be me.

Question, on the Third picture down. It looks like the Carapace continues onto the Ribcage, is that supposed to also be red?

you can do it red. it really doesn't matter. It's what you prefer

also your nids look nice. and they will look very good when you have a big swarm

My word, that scheme is nearly identical to mine. Great minds think alike. However, I did not highlight all the way to orange, and i built my red up over 4 layers and left some black on the carapace. Very nice job on it btw. Grey/Black over Red/Yellow works really well IMO. Such contrast, yet similarity.

The reason I picked the scheme was because of my old Call of Duty clan, the colours Grey and Red. Got a bit of a personal edge to it, I'm just painting up the rest of the Hormagaunts now, schools been seriously killing my painting time, however I might be making a Tyranid bust out of clay in my art class...
