Haraio's Hive Fleet Tourou emerging! (Pic Heavy)

Hiya people^^

After collecting about 2000 points of Tyranids of the Hive Fleet Behemoth (as most will remember from the Battle for Macragge), I decided a little while ago to repaint it all.

Yes, I did say repaint. And before you all call me crazy behind my back, it's not so many drastic changes to the paint scheme. You see, I really love the red colour, and I was just getting tired of the turquise. I pondered long and hard on what colour to replace it with (I even considered doing a complete repaint), then my girlfriend finally made the choice for me. It was an obvious solution, just mixing my own favourite colour (red) with hers (green). So here it is, ladies and gentlemen.

Second, my Warrior Support Squad, with Deathspitters and Barbed Strangler. Note the lack of eyes, my lazy way of portraying Enhanced Senses ;D



My slightly converted Barbed Strangler. When I first started with Tyranids, I thought I could just use the spikes to make it capable of representing both a BS and a VC. Now, it just serves as a little spikier Strangler^^

Here are two gaunts, so you can compare the new scheme with the old Behemoth one. Note the edging of the carapaces and the weapon^^

Looks good, and the colours work. But wheres the Fex top front carapace?

Oh, there's supposed to be a carapace there? O.o;; I thought it was only if I bought him the extended carapace *runs off to do some gluing*

Yeah, I think the colours work better than the Behemoth colours do. Red and green gives a more 'natural' flavour in my opinion. I also prefer the 'bony' weapons, rather than the black ones in the old paint scheme. Of course, it's a pain to repaint 2000 points of Nids ^^;;

To be honest I find much of the biomorph extras that GW made to be too general looking to be worth getting worried over WYSIWYG - e.g. my gun fexes have blades on them - not thorns - blades - there is a difference.

Yeah, you have a point there ^^;;
Now, if I can only find the Carapace in my bitz box. Let's just hope I didn't wreck it or chop it up or something XD

Its a bit of a hastle to stick the right ones on then remember to paint them, but the carapaces is a standard part of the Fex even if its just the plain one.

And then you got your prefecious people that will not allow you to play if they dont have it on...my response to that. see you later..lol

Yeah, I found it in the bottom. Turns out it was the spine banks one that I chopped to pieces XD Anyway, I've gotten it glued on now and painted it black. Will post up an updated pic when it's done^^

I like what I see here. You could try to keep to the lines when it comes to the eyes but so far your nids look good. Try to work on the depth of the skin tone though.

Also are you fully aware that Hive Fleet Colossus was a fleet of aliens called Zoats under the control of Tyranids that were discovered in the 38th millennium and utterly annihilated, the last ship being destroyed in 226.M39 as stated in page 25 Codex Tyranids, Forgotten Fleets.

Looking good, you could always rename the fleet to Hive fleet Jingle bells they look very festive in the red and green. I know I know that was very corny

Yeah, I've read my share of the History, but in my opinion the Zoats aren't exactly a 'Hive Fleet'. So I decided I would create a fleet worthy of the name. That, and all the fancy, inventive names are taken. Like one guy on this forum with a name from a virus; I can't think up stuff like that^^;;

Yeah, I know the depth of the skin isn't very good. I've only been painting Tyranids for little over one year (I was doing LOTR before that), and I just think it takes too long on my Nids^^

If you want a good name jsut research Mythology. I got Hive Fleet Tartarus from it.

Hive Fleet Garuda was the one I was going to use. A lot of the more common Greek monster names are normally taken by ten people each so if you want to be unique I suggest picking a non Greek name.

Nice painting, I started doing my maccrage stealers a lovely purple with bone carapaces, but am going with green bodies and bone carapaces this time. I would love to have 2000 points done like yourself, that'll take me about a year. Me who has ever done any converting before now want to convert a broodlord to a better pose, and a middle gen 'fex to a dakka 'fex, good luck!

On the hive fleet name pick something from another language, how about Norweigian, or are you worried no-one outside norway will be able to read or pronounce it

I went for Hive Fleet Arracht, monster in Irish, keeping the roots, give a reason for a choir, and the green and bone paint scheme

Loving that paint scheme! ;D one thing though i think you should consider thinning your paints down a bit and possibly another highlight color for the carapace? would love to see more models:)

Another highlight for the carapace? I already have three stages I'm using Dark Angels green, then a layer of Snot Green, before I highlight the edges with Goblin Green^^
