Thoughts on the new Termagant guns?

I've been hearing folks saying spinefists are the way to go in 10th, but has anyone had any experience with the limited guns? Spike rifle, shard launcher, and strangleweb.

I can't really imagine the spike rifle ever being justified, but the other two seem to have potential.
Just wondering if anyone has actually tried them out.

I managed to sell off 300ish old sculpt little bugs and upgraded to the new sculpt, but haven't started putting them together yet, so I DO have an ulterior motive lol.

Always strangle webs, 1 every 10 gaunts! I am making spinefists because apparently it maths out to a little better damage because of twin-linked and something to do with actions and pistols or something.

Spinefists are great as they allow you to advance and do an action (assault). The pistol keyword is also great for unending swarm as you'll probably want to charge something to tie it up. Then you'll be able to shoot.

Shard launcher looks great for shredding hordes, so I'd say bring them if you'll be facing hordes. The strangle web is nice for torrent + devastating wounds.

Personally, I'm running 18 spine fists + 2 strangle webs. Im a casual player so I don't have legit models for the shard launcher + strangle web, nor all the spine fists. Im just going to tell my opponent "this is what I'm running". Almost no one I know cares about WYSIWYG.

I haven't tried it, but from my point of view, strangle webs seem great because of the fact you can now down a large number of infantry. If you want shard launcher you should use barbgaunts as they have better shard launchers.

Finally, pick whichever looks cool, personally I don't even like the look of termie shard launchers. So pick whichever is coolest and tell your opponent what it is( e.g. shard launcher that looks like a spike rifle )

Honestly I don't find any of the guns that good. That not the purpose of gribblies. They can plink wounds off here and there, but there real purpose is to get in the way and score points. So far I haven't felt the need to add new guns.

Do mixed guns cause any problems with doing actions? You could just not shoot the non-assault weapons and still be okay I assume? I'm foggy on this as I have little experience with mixed weapon squads.

I'm definitely in a similar boat as you guys lol. Non-tyranid players will definitely just take your word for it. I have ~40 nicely painted old gants that I'm not getting rid of, and rest assured those fleshborers will just be whatever gun I want them to be haha.

Doing an action just "is the unit eligible to shoot and not battle shocked" so if you have assault weapons, you can advance and do an action even if a couple of models have only the heavy keyword. If you have pistols, you can do an action while in engagement range

I've built three units of ten, with one of each weapon load out, simply so I have examples of all of them in my collection.
I've paired the strangleweb with fleshborers, the spike rifle with devourers and the barb launcher with spinefists. I'll be honest, I've never fired the barb launcher as the spinefist gaunts are just advancing up the board. The devourer gaunts usually sit on my home objective shooting at targets of opportunity, so the spike rifle gives a little extra range and benefits from the heavy rule, but again its a side grade at best. I did manage to get a devastating wound through on a transcendant c'tan last game with the strangleweb which made me laugh enough to make up for getting shot off the board in short order. In my opinion I think the strangleweb is probably the only one worth equipping simply for the potential damage and some cheeky overwatch.
However, as usual I fully expect the naff options to swing wildly in usefulness each edition or update so build whatever takes your fancy and keep some spares. What I'd really like is the option to take full units of spike rifles like we could do in the past - that might be a useful rear objective camper / reserve blocker that could contribute to the fight.
