Buying 3rd Edition Tyranid Models?

Hello all, I hope I’m allowed to post this here. (Please let me know if I can’t have this thread here).

I’m trying to locate any 3rd edition tyranid models for my boyfriend who played 3rd edition way back. He absolutely loves how they look but he really enjoys putting models together. I’m just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to find any non built models? I’ve tried looking on ebay but it seems like most models are assembled already (I know it’s been a long time since they came out so it makes sense, I just thought I would try to find some!) I would appreciate any help.

Ebay probably is your best bet, unbuilt models will be a rarity though. You could also try the troll trader, they usually have a few older things.
Probably worth bearing in mind that a lot of the 3rd edition models are metal, which is very easy to strip paint from and break the superglue.

eBay is your best bet, though it can be hit or miss. I find that you need to use several search phrases to get the results you are looking for. For example, searching 3rd edition tyranids will get you results. However, most people don’t know what edition their tyranid models are and won’t include an edition in the auction title. If you search for OOP tyranids (out of print tyranids) you’ll get more results.

Also, there are several tyranid kits that were reused and reprinted for several editions. Gaunts, for example, were unchanged from 3rd edition until their new kit was released in 10th edition. Doing some research into what kits were unchanged for several editions will help in your search.

Lastly, Noble Knight games has a large buyback program. Sometimes they get old tyranid stuff. They might be worth checking out.
