20 hormagants in the back field.

I have 20 hormagants and I intend to use them as a single unit strung across my back field to deny the area to enemy deep strike on turn 2.
In a chain double model width formation they will cover a length of 9x3inches = 27 inches.
For 2000pt Strike Force games, board size 44"x60" This leaves a large gap between the board sides and the unit of 9inches or 17inches
Also a single 3xRaveners unit will temporarily cover the remaining gap.

Around turn 3 I will Fall Back my decimated 2x20 termagant units towards the back board edge and then thrust the hormagants forwards. I expect the Raveners will have gone into reserves turn 2, end of enemy turn.

Using Endless Swarm stratagem from Invasion Fleet detachment, (or less likely Unending Waves from Unending Swarm detachment) to try restore numbers.

Will this be practical as area denial, please discuss?

Try not to do two model chains, 1-2-1 is better. Example for 20 model unit, 1-2-1 nets you ~9” of additional coverage:

Neurogants are cheaper. Also, not Shure but maiby 3 ripper swarms is also cheaper and larger?

Neurogaunts are cheaper, but they won’t make it to midfield to do anything meaningful if they screen the back until T3. Same for Rippers.

How about starting the Neurogaunts midfield (which would be my frontline), then moving them to the back line by turn 3, just in time to prevent the enemy coming up the rear? Suppose I could to the same with Hormagaunts.

The problem with Unending Swarm detachment and Endless Waves strategem, is that it is not a mechanism to add more models to a weakened unit.

The problem with Invasion Fleet detachment, is that your opponent knows to focus on completely killing one gaunt unit, so either you cannot use the Endless Swarm strategy and neither can you make efficient use of it on two units.

6" move to run back to deployment, very unlikely to get back and screen after going midfield.
