Ruins line of sight and cover

Heya guys,

I know this isn't strictly Tyranid, but since there are avid WH40k gamers here I'd like to ask how do you play the 10th edition terrain rules regarding ruins and line of sight.

So as far I understand it's all about true line of sight when it comes to shooting phase and many tournaments play it so, that if you are on the first floor of ruins, you do not see out or in, and on the second floor and so on the true line of sight rules apply. How do see that when in my case I have the ruins set from Urbanmatz www.urbanmatz.com/p/341/industrial-ruins-and-pipes-full-set and there is this this ledge outside the ruins on the second floor. It's clear to me that if you are there, you can see as normal from there, but do you think that the units that are on that ledge, do they also get the benefit of cover?

Also how do you see, how should the movement be done if a unit wants to move there, normally count the vertical distance to clime through that wall to get to the ledge? Or if coming from the outside, just go below the ledge and then do a normal movement to get up to it? Sorry for the possibly silly question. I'm quite new to the game and still learning.

The first floor LoS blocking rule is pretty event dependent. I’ve played at ones that follow it, ones that only apply it to some buildings, and some that do true LoS everywhere.

That said, it is usually only windows/doors that block LoS. So, if the unit can be seen without looking through a hole in a wall, it can see/be seen as normal.

For movement, move directly under the ledge then move vertically with non-fly units. Fly units measure a straight line to the ledge.

Edit: Under any circumstance, if the model is not fully visible thanks to the ruin (or wholly within the terrain) it has the benefit of cover.
