Controlling points without biovores

I've never purchased biovores and I'm holding out for the new models. What are some clever ways to control points? Are ripperswarms still viable for this currently? Or should I just take some long range termigants to sit on the points?

Currently I have a 1k monster mash list and working on my 2k list. I have enough for a 2k army. I'm just getting back into it after a long break so to keep games quick I've been playing 1k.

Neither biovores+sporemine generation nor rippers can control an objective. Both spore mines and rippers are OC0.

Spore mines can be used for scoring secondaries such as behind enemy lines and engage on all fronts. Spore mines and rippers are disruption units where they can slow the enemy down or reduce their OC.

Oh wow. Well that saves our group from making a mistake. We haven't fielded any 0cp models yet. But we had thought CP only comes into play when there are multiple models of different armys on a point. That's good to know.

yeah, thats one of the big changes between 9th and 10th. in 10th there are actually models not capable of scoring primary (due to OC0). this also means there is no longer the weird interaction of 1 ObSec model securing primary under the feet of big number of non obsec models (because obsec no longer exists, this is now all compiled together in the OC-value of models)

Generally, for control of any objective, you take all models in range and add their OC values to a total for the controlling player. The player with the higher OC controls the objective. If a model has OC 0, they cannot control an objective as they can't contribute to getting greater than an opponent.

Almost every army in the game wants 1 lone op unit to keep your backfield obj if you encounter indirect fire.

So at least a lictor is always a good choice. After that take at least 1 of the cheapest unit you can field if no indirect fire (look at pyrovores for nids).

If you check any comp nid list it has one or several of each.
