Good evening ladies and gents. I am totally new to Warhammer 40k and recently picked up the Leviathan boxset. My goal is to muster up a 1k point army starring the Tyranids. Now, I have done a lot of reading up on the units and how the army works. I'm fairly certain the list I came up with still needs a lot of work, but that's what you guys are here for. The experts 😊. So here it is. Any and all feedback is welcome!!
NeuroTyrant 105 Neutogaunts x11 45 Winged Warrior Prime 80 Tyranid Warriors x6 (Ranged/ 2 squads w/3 Each) 140 Biovore 65 Von Ryan's Leapers x3 75 Venomthropes x3 70 Zoanthropes x3 90 Psychophage 125 Old One Eye 140
Enhancements
Adaptive Biology 25 Alien Cunning 30 Synaptic Lynchpin 10
Points: 1000
Some things to note are I put in the Tyranid Warriors in place of x20 Termagaunts. Sizing the two up it feels like the Warriors are just stronger and more cost effective than the Termagaunts. I'm probably totally wrong. The two other options I had were to bring a Screamer Killer and x5 Barbgaunts and put them in the place of Old One Eye and the Biovore. Let me hear your thoughts!

What's the purpose of this list, just playing against friends?
No Carnifexes to run with OOE (old one eye)?
I would consider swapping out OOE for a Haruspex if you're just going to run one. You're also spending a lot of points on enhancements; do you think a unit of Barbgaunts is better than having them?

Also OOE can't have enhancements at all. Prime doesn't really add much, especially if you're splitting the warrior units. You've got a lot of Synapse, but also taking Synapse support. Some things to note are I put in the Tyranid Warriors in place of x20 Termagaunts. Sizing the two up it feels like the Warriors are just stronger and more cost effective than the Termagaunts. They do completely different things: warriors are Synapse and damage, with a bit of utility with fall back and shoot/charge. Terms are bodies: they exist.

The point of the list is to have fun, but also be competitive

Ok, I made a few changes NeuroTyrant. 105 Neurogaunts x11 45 Gargoyles x10 75 Termagaunts x20 120 Biovore. 65 Von Ryan's Leapers x3. 75 Venomthropes x3. 70 Zoanthropes x3. 90 Psychophage. 125 Winged Hive Tyrant. 195 Enhancements Alien Cunning. 30 Points: 995 Thing is, I'm limited to what I can put in because I just started. So I only have a few models from the Leviathan box and what friends gave me. I really would like to swap out the Psychophage for a Haruspex, but I can't find one ANYWHERE. Does this look any better?

Does this look any better? list doesnt look too bad for a first. you just need to keep in mind that you have not a whole lot of anti-tank / anti-elite (aside from zoans), so if your enemy plays a lot of vehicles/termies/golden bois you might be in for a rough ride (especially if he is able to avoid your zoans or kill them early). aside from lacking anti-tough-stuff you primary game between the gaunts and secondary game between leapers and gargs looks pretty good actually. hence, i would suggest to play objective/points game and win by score. try to get gaunts on mid-field objectives to outscore your opponent on primary, and try to use spores from bio and garg to score some secondary points. i would keep winged in reserve as a melee-threat where you need it, but keep in mind that he isnt too tough, so he wont be there for more then 1 or maybe 2 turns. what helped me a lot was thinking of what my gameplan is going to be (roughly speaking what do you plan to score with whom). but remember, every man has a plan until he gets punched in the face

So here's my updated 1k list. You literally had me thinking ALL day. NeuroTyrant. 105 Neurogaunts x11 45 Gargoyles x10 75 Termagaunts x10 60 Pyrovore x2 60 Biovore. 65 Venomthropes x3. 70 Zoanthropes x3. 90 Hive Tyrant. 220 Tyrannofex 200 Enhancements Synaptic Lynchpin. 10 Points: 1000 Gameplan is to score objectives with the Gargoyles, Termagaunts, and spore mines. Pyros are there to knock units out of cover and chip. Biovore is long long range annoyance and score/damage. The Venomthropes, Zoanthropes, Hive Tyrant, and Tyrannofex move as one single organism knocking stuff out. Mind you I'm totally new and have NEVER played a game of 40k in my life, lol. Let me know what you think

Let me know what you think oh sorry, scaring was never my intend! your first list might as well work like a charm (its just because of the stretched out toughness characterstics facing tough armies MIGHT be a game-ender before the game started if you dont have a plan) venomes dont do too much to support ht and tyranno, they might be better suited to support gaunts on objective to make them harder to remove i think. else, i think you list looks pretty solid! you have a good bit of everything and a plan how you want to run it i would suggest give it a few round with this list and see how it works out for you. possible changes are to substitute neuro tyrant, synaptic lynchpin and neurogaunts for haruspex and alien cunning (on ht) or to super heavily lean into tervigon and hordes and just regen 3d3+9 gaunts per round (i've heard that, especially going first, this is super strong in the points game); but this is a totally different game compared to your other lists. most likely this list doesnt even kill more then a unit or two, but you have the bodies to easily score all you need (but be prepared, gaunts are here to die, and they will die in dozens)

I can't find any Haruspex ANYWHERE for sale at a reasonable price, lol. Any other units you think I could sub?

I believe the haruspex shares a kit with the exocrine. That kit is only available through the GW online store (which is currently sold out). Your game store can special order one, but they get it at close to retail, so all you’ll really save is on the shipping.
The next best option is eBay, but that can be a mixed bag.
Another way to go is a “counts as” haruspex. Several companies make monsters that look close to a haruspex. You can always get one and play that model as a haruspex until you get the actual model. In you ever want the actual model that is.

I'll have to try that also. With the Haruspex, my new list looks like this. Invasion force Kraken (1000 points) Tyranids Incursion (1000 points) Invasion Fleet CHARACTER Hive Tyrant (235 points) • Warlord • 1x Monstrous bonesword and lash whip 1x Stranglethorn cannon • Enhancement: Perfectly Adapted BATTLELINE Gargoyles (75 points) • 10x Blinding venom 10x Fleshborer Termagants (60 points) • 10x Fleshborer 10x Xenos claws and teeth OTHER DATASHEETS Barbgaunts (50 points) • 5x Bio-cannon 5x Xenos claws and teeth Biovores (65 points) • 1x Chitin-barbed limbs 1x Spore Mine launcher Haruspex (125 points) • 1x Grasping tongue 1x Ravenous maw 1x Shovelling claws Pyrovores (30 points) • 1x Chitin-barbed limbs 1x Flamespurt Tyrannofex (200 points) • 1x Powerful limbs 1x Rupture cannon 1x Stinger salvoes Venomthropes (70 points) • 3x Toxic lashes Zoanthropes (90 points) • 1x Neurothrope • 1x Warp Blast 1x Xenos claws and teeth • 2x Zoanthrope • 2x Warp Blast 2x Xenos claws and teeth
