So if you have two units of neurogaunts next to a Hive Tyrant. The Hive Tyrant can then fly off and the two neurogaunt units will continue to provide each other with the Synapse keyword.

I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works. And if it is how it works then expect a quick errata.

I’m struggling to see the point of these gaunts. Why not just buy another synapse critter? Why would my opponent shoot at these things when they could shoot my synapse creatures with the same effect? OC 1? They don’t even sit on objectives well.

I try and stay positive but unless these have another ability we haven't seen (doubtful), or are DIRT cheap, I just cannot think of a situation where they will be better than just taking another Synapse creature.

Seems like most datasheets have a reaction ability. We didn't see the full data card. I was hoping these were like the necron ones that hung out around crypteks but it seems like they're just a missed opportunity from what we've seen.

I don’t think we’ve had the full details on how they’re dealing with the return of independent characters joining units but from what I recall certain characters will be allowed to join specific units. If our synapse characters can join a brood of neurogaunts then they don’t need the bodyguard rule and we are effectively buying (possibly up to) 30 extra wounds for a character. The ability to boost their synapse range over a potentially huge area is just gravy at that point. The question is how much would you pay for extra wounds on a hive tyrant?

Yeah, if most of our Synapse can join them, AND the NG rule is measured from the squad not the single nodebeast, then they have a strong niche as ablative wounds/helping an HQ take objectives.

At that point they will eituer be auto-take or trash depending on points. Sort of like the old Regeneration biomorph that was a flat points cost so auto-take on a few large models, absolute trash on others.

Makes me think that the neurogant Node might have the permanent SYNAPSE keyword and hide as the unit sargeant.

Neurogaunts serve as crucial relays for the synapse network and bodyguards for those that would focus it. Larger nodebeasts can be distinguished by the bulbous growth on their backs, while the smaller gaunts chitter around it with sharp claws and teeth.

No. This didn't work with Sporocysts and it's not going to work now.

Use neurotyrant ability on HT and neurogaunts, they always count as in Synapse range and therefore gain the Synapse keyword, allowing you to patch holes in your web if required.


That's how I see them.

100% agree here.

The other option is for super aggressive moves. For example, you could do a "counts as in synapse" and throw forward genestealers or other shock troops.

Yeah, in conjunction with the Neurotyrant the Neurogants are looking MUCH better. They have moved from trash to niche in my estimation.

True. They just HAVE to fulfil another role than synapse estender to be even remotely useful.
