Hello Hive mind,
I've got a couple of questions about the Parasite of Mortrex's strategem, Enfolding Strike. Specifically, can it apply to vehicles, and does it generate rippers in the turn in which it first triggers.
So, the strategem reads:
Use this Stratagem in your Movement phase, when a PARASITE OF MORTREX model from your army finishes a Normal Move or Advances. Select one enemy unit that PARASITE OF MORTREX model moved across this phase. Roll one D6: on a 2-5, that unit suffers D3 mortal wounds and becomes infected with parasites (see Parasitic Infection ability, on model’s datasheet); on a 6, that unit suffers 3 mortal wounds and becomes infected with parasites.
RAW, it seems this can apply to any enemy unit, you role a d6, and on a 2-5 the unit becomes infected. I ask because the infected with parasite rule itself is triggered otherwise by the parasites omnipositor weapon, which states:
Parasitic Infection: Each time an attack made with this weapon successfully wounds an enemy unit (excluding VEHICLE units), that unit suffers 1 mortal wound in addition to any normal damage and becomes infected with parasites. At the start of your opponent’s Command phase, for each enemy unit that is infected with parasites, your opponent must roll one D6:
On a 1-3, that unit being rolled for suffers D3 mortal wounds and is no longer infected with parasites.
On a 4-6, that unit being rolled for suffers D3 mortal wounds and remains infected with parasites.
If that unit suffers 2 or more mortal wounds as a result of this ability this phase, set up a new friendly <HIVE FLEET> RIPPER SWARMS unit on the battlefield within 3" of that unit and not within Engagement Range of any enemy units. That RIPPER SWARMS unit contains 1 model, and, if you are playing a game that uses a points limit, does not cost any Reinforcement points.
So, my read of this is that RAW, the strat works against anything as there is no caveat on doing the mortal wounds and infecting the target (other than not rolling a 1). So I could do it to a tank, even though in normal melee, I would not be able to trigger the parasitic infection state against it?
For the second part, it seems relatively clear that the ripper swarm generation only happens in a command phase where an opponent takes 2+ mortal wounds, not in the movement phase when the strat is used?
