As 2022 is slowly coming to its end I was thinking it would be nice to share my impressions and thoughts on the last 365 days of my Tyranid / modelling hobby. Also - to share any wishes for upcoming year. If you feel like it - pitch in!
I must say I've never had a year when I've gone undefeated. There were some ups and downs but since my first game Hive Fleet Jormungandr managed to press on to victory 15-0-0. (I don't play tournaments, only friendly games, but we tend to be as cometitive as possible. Still, a big deal for me. Yay!)
Victories aside, all the games were enjoyable and my most memorable one was where I managed to win against Necrons with only 2 models dead (1 Zoanthrope and 1 Warrior), obliterating the opponent who conceded at the end of Turn 3 (ouch!).
I love the new Codex and I am about to move away from my Jorg to other, probably less tanky, fleets. My gaming group is waiting the Guard Codex to arrive to start the Crusade campaign, which I am immensly looking forward to.
On the hobby side, my Hive fleet has been updated with brighter and more vibrant color scheme and I've acquired (sniped/rescued) some excellent 2nd hand models. Still a lot of gray plastic around, but I've finally arrived at the stage where I have enough models to field different army compositions. Also, painting no longer feels like WORK, as I am able to field fully painted army and I'm in no rush to paint some more.
I've also upped my terrain building skills, made my first battlemat and finished to build some more terrain pieces. After 3 years of playing we can finally field some spectacular battles, and I will start to document our games more.
As for 2023. I hope we expand our gaming group, to meet more warhammer folk and battle new factions. Also - I have an (ambitious) idea to make my first video battle report.
Also, last but not the least, a huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who are active on the forum. Things have been a bit quiet here lately and despite that I am able to find nuggets of wisdom to keep improving my game and love for the hobby. A great deal of my winning streak I owe to the community.

Well, it was good for my GSC, who finally saw the battlefield after me buying them when they were reintroduced in 7th ed ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Almost up to 3000 pts of my Kraken nids painted too, so going well there. First half of the year was kinda slow, but got lots done after september, and even managed to get into double figures on the "games played" index. Took the GSC up against the new space dwarves a few times, won 1, lost 2. Not bad with an army I'd never actually played before going up against the pre-nerfed points Votann. Next up, next year will be about TANKS!!! Brood Brother tanks specifically...after the nids and the GSC I desperately need to paint something other than infantry ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Gonna try and get at least one game a month in, as it was painfully obvious that I need to catch up on all the FAQs and errata that have happened since I last actually got to game (end of 2021ish I think?).

Was a big year for me gaming and hobby wise.
Gaming wise I was able to take home my first GT tournament (first tournament win in general) back in June with the finals being against the 8th best ITC player in Canada. This was also the best game of 40k I have ever played.
Hobby wise I am three models away from having ZERO backlog for my Tyranids and being at roughly 10k pts fully painted. Been a long grow since 2012 haha.
My local community has grown from 4ish active players to about 10 of us. This is very exciting as 40k in my town has been dead for years (we don't even have a local gaming store within 100km of us). I'm aiming to host local events with our group to help grow the scene and bring in players from the city to continue to grow the relationship between our two scenes.
Into next year I am looking to either get into HH finally, or if 10th is around the corner, expand on my Tyranids of course.

Well, this year I did a lot of building and a lot of thinking about playing but not much actual playing.
I assembled 4 Necromunda gangs, put together gang parts boxes for them, and read about a third of the main rulebook and half of the Van Saar book.
I built most of the minis that have come in from my Imperium subscription including a fair bit of terrain.
I started a new Admech army and have built a good bit of the troops for it.
I assembled a ton of my wife's Sororitas models for her.
She has painted probably a half dozen models, which is more than I painted, so there is that.
For 2023: I still have a frighteningly large pile of shame though, especially if I intend to continue building out my admech army (I do).
I'll probably make some bladed cog GSC with spare parts.
I have a ton of reading to do for Necromunda before I can run a game of it. That game is ... intimidating.
I am somewhat sad that by the time I get around to playing my Tyranids again, they will likely no longer be a top tier faction, but that is life. I have more time for modeling than playing because I can't very well play while listening to meetings at work :-).

For me, it was an odd year for the hobby. After 1.5 years of none of my armies getting a 9e codex, all of my armies got a codex within 5 months (GSC, custodes, and nids). I've done less gaming than I'd like to: my wife went back to grad school so I've taken on more chores as some of her classes have been intense. I also badly sprained my ankle in February so walking and standing on the FLGS's concrete floors was more pain than the game was worth. I did participate in 3 leagues bringing custodes once and genestealer cults 2x. I only got a full set of games in in the last league and went 3-3. I went 0-2 with the first list version against opponents going to adepticon and 3-1 with my second list version including a 4 point loss to a guard player. I also participated in a narrative crusade with my nids and helped run an apocalypse game at the end of the crusade. Other than that, odd games here and there. Hobby wise, I'm painting slower but at a better quality than I was last year. I'd like to speed up my painting next year. I did make the mistake of trying to batch paint all of my custodes infantry to a very high standard. I started in June and have not finished yet! I have been breaking in other models for a change of pace. Painting I completed: 3 custodes terminators 5 pyrovores 1 lichtor 3ish neurothropes/zoanthropes 1 haurspex I've also built a few other models and have started expanding my cult to include more vehicles and bikes. In other news, I picked up kill team and have played a few games of that. The rules for cover are confusing but it's a blast to play. For next year, I want to complete my custodes and paint up more of my cult. I'm also planning on running my nids in a local league using tempest of war with a list that's part models I like and part scoring potential. I'm expecting my models to get a points nerf soon but we'll see ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I went from part time employee and government hand outs (I have a masters degree mind you) to full time employee and no government hand outs. Some bad hours but stil really nice.
I can't help but thinking changing the manager was a big factor in this. Long live the new manager.
I have painted a lot of tyranids, GSC and space wolf. This last month I have slowly blown the dust of my old DE amrie as well as started a knights army. (8 models in one army, how hard is that.)
I do ocationally get in games as well, but I must say I am more of a painter then a player. Although I love to play there is not always time.
9th edition is amazing.

My wife survived cancer and had 3 surgeries in the past year.
I got a big promotion at work.
I've played only one game of 9th edition.
My gaming has been mainly Bolt Action. But I have gotten into 3D printing. I game about a day per month.
For 2023 I look forward to getting back into 40K if a new edition is released. I might be getting too old for 40K though. The game has become such a tough meta (at least in the Orlando area) that it isn't really possible to do anything but get curb stomped unless you play regularly against good opponents. The rules change so rapidly it is nearly impossible to keep up if your aren't dedicated to it.
I bought the new AM box with the codex and have been enjoying reading the codex. Guard was my first army so that has been fun.

I got the best gift of all this year, my daughter, Penelope. She's 6 months old now and going strong.
I've played around 6 games of 40k with the new codex and walked over everyone I played.
I am now in an unfun position where no one wants to face me and I'm honestly getting tired of the whole shebang.
2023 might bring renewed vigor towards the game but living in a cramped environment I'm considering selling it all off.

Joined my first doubles tourney(first tourney ever). Was told it was friendly so brought of a mix of units for a balanced list. Won 1 lost 3 rounds. But it was a fun experience and saw lots of interesting and creative design ideas. An alice in wonderland themed harlequin list was amazing! I'll def go back this year if they host it again to get more experience, since I usually play with the same 2-3 people only. Collected and assembled most models in the nids list. Just lacking an official stone crusher, shrikes, toxicrene and crone. Might get those eventually and also work to paint up the remaining 40-50% of my army

My year started with a separation from my cheating ex wife right before going to LVO with Crusher Stampede, the last hurrah of the 8th codex. I had a great time hanging out in Vegas with friends. So I've been able to dedicate myself to the game and hobby this year in a way that I have not previously been able to. And the tournament results reflect that. 16th at NOVA Open Super Major (winning the 2nd bracket) 8th at Maryland Open Super Major 2nd (5 - 0) at a GT 4th at a Major 5th at a Major 1st at several RTTs I've also finished painting and building a substantial number of models, my collection has grown for 7 years to this... imgur.com/gallery/B2yLVu3The divorce went well for me, kept the house. I have a girlfriend that supports my hobbies. I live near an excellent local community to play tournaments. I was promoted at work. I got COVID once and survived. And next year is looking good. So it was simultaneously the worst and best year of my life.

Can I just say I find this thread very inspiring. Spouses surviving cancer, children beeing born, getting a fresh start out of a bad relationship, playing for fun and playing to crush. It sounds like we are all doing all right.

Life changes: I managed to dodge redundancy into a new role at the same company. Not sure if the role is for me, but I'm safely employed with the general economic out look a bit bleak here. General hobby wise I'm gradually painting things up, most recent was a load of jungle terrain. I have a plan in place that will see the end of major hobby spending for me, just picking up odds and ends from now on. Current project is completing painting on my complete original release Necromunda collection. Tyranid wise, I painted the parasite of mortrex. I haven't used the new tyranid book yet. I feel a bit underwhelmed and disappointed by it. It's just a bit more complicated than I'd like rules wise, and I rolled my eyes at some odd changes like rippers being nerfed into oblivion, hive tyrants loosing most of their equipment options, some unit size restrictions etc and the criminal lack of background and hobby material in it. I don't think it helped that I'd waited ages for a 9th ed book for one of my armies that I wanted to play, and they put the prices of codexes up just before this release. I am no doubt being a bit harsh on the book, it certainly has refreshed a tired old army, but for me, I read it a couple of times and put it back on my shelf. I just can't get excited by it. However, as I've spent money on it and haven't run the tyranids in ages I think the new year will see them in action once more.

While your opinions are of course wallid, I think you would be supriced if you gave it a whirl. I also felt that the book was 'OK' when I read through it. But then I kept winning with it. Some things like I could fall back and charge for one turn was - insane- against my ork opponent. I also won VS Tau, a codex that was very good when it came out.
And then the tournament results started coming in and tyranids just where azaing everywhere. After a lot of nerfs they stil kept beeing good. Although I have a hard time expressing why it is so good. Just a lot of small things. I would wholewarmingly recommend you take it for a spinn. You might be pleasantly supprice. 😉
