Did I accidentally cheat against Tau?

Something came up in a game vs Tau this weekend. My opponent was good with it, but he’s pretty inexperienced and was largely taking my word for it.

I pushed Neuroparasite through Synaptic link all the way across the board, nearly to his deployment zone by stringing my Zoanthropes to a Tyranid Prime, to Warriors, to a Parasite. At the end of all that, his Breacher squad was just out of reach, but a shield drone was within 12 inches of the Parasite.

I asked him if the drone was part of the same unit as the Breachers, and he said yes. Based on that, I rolled Neuroparasite for the whole unit, including Breachers and the drone, and wiped his entire unit.

He didn’t complain, and I definitely thought I was right… but was I?

Was that okay?

If the drones were part of the unit, then the entire unit is within range and targetable. So yes, you rolled correctly against entire unit. In this case it could be confusing due to different models in a single unit.

How do you kill 11 models with a power that is capped at 6 MWs?

Well… turns out I did it by misreading the rules for Neuroparasite.

Turns out I did cheat… just not the way I was worried about. I’ll apologize to him next time I see him. He won the match anyways, so I don’t feel too guilty.

Last time I played Tau my dreadnought exploded, 1d3 mortal wounds. All 5 units in range (my own) took 3 mortal wounds each after I rolled it out. Bad dice is just luck of the game.

Cheating implys intent, you made a mistake. I make them all the time, nothing to beat yourself up about.
