1000 pts jorm for friendly tornament (advice wanted)

Im going to play a small tournament (8 people) with friends and want some help deciding hyper adaption and secondaries.
We are going for fun and strong/descent lists but not the best op builds there is, especially with the stronger codicies.

There will be orkz, necrons, tau, DE, DG, and chaos knights to worry about and I want to have a good chance against them all.

So here is my list:
Jorm patrol

Tervigon: wl, maw claws, adaptive biology, catalyst.
30 termagants
3 warriors: vc, strangler, ds, boneswords, hooks, glands.
3 zoanthropes: neuroparasite
Carnifex: hvc, spitters, enh senses, Voracios ammo
Carnifex: hvc, spitters, enh senses

Leaning toward the ignore ap1 adaption but not sure how much ap1 there are in the codicies I will meet. Thinking about switching the glands on warriors for a Spore cysts on the voracious carnifex and maybe a different power for zoan. And I am very unsure about which secondaries to pick, btw are there 3 even in 1k pts?

Orks might be the only list with heavy AP-1. Tau technically are, but have many ways to bump their AP up. Why not take territorial instincts to make the Terv and Carnifexen Objsec?

Incursion missions still pick 3 secondaries, but the kill oriented ones are pretty bad. I’d look to banners/spore nodes, Engage, and Warp ritual. If they can deny, grind might be okay. Giving a Carnifex Synapse would help with being able to choose Synaptic Insight, it is usually good for 8VP at 1000pts vs the right armies.

This is the first time I play non-crusade in 9th, and have not played alot at all tbh since 6th/7th so I am not that experienced with the objective secured rule so have no good idea of the impact it would have. Will two backfield shootyfexes really need the objsec? The Terv will push up so I guess it might be good for her, but on the other hand she has the gants with her. I guess im just oldschool prefering the pure stat buffs lol. Could you give an example where the objsec would shine so I get a better perspective?

The secondaries you recommend seem like the best ones, only terv can do the ritual though so alot of pressure on her not dying already being the warlord and all.
Synapsefex is a cool idea, will give it some thought.

Btw is there any way for monsters benefitting from the natural chamo trait?

Giving Objsec to the Carnifexes will usually mean the opponent has to kill them instead of using fast models to just outnumber on an objective. An Example, the opponent deepstrikes a 5-man unit and charges the fex on the objective. They will likely deny your primary since the fex doesn't have cc. Objsec would have prevented this.

Since Monsters can fire in combat, they will also probably better at pushing mid-field objectives than the Warriors (who you can use to hold your home objective more efficiently). The big thing is that the Tervigon gains Objsec, and a T8 2+/5+++ is not going to die often (especially since they have to go through the gants first to shoot at it). Since it would count as 5 models with Objsec, it can steal objectives from basically anything it charges (it will contest with the Knights wardogs).

I doubt the Tervigon will die before at least scoring 7 on warp ritual, that body is fat at 1000pts.

Yes, if monsters are getting the -1 to-hit from Dense Cover they will get the +1 Sv (must be from terrain, jorm trait doesn't work). Natural camo could be good, though most of the armies you will fight are more CC oriented. Tau and Necrons are the only heavy shooting factions, though Necrons can go CC focused too.

On smaller battlefields you play 1k games on, 18" dense for monsters is not much, especially if you want to push mid-field with your phat mama. Where it really shines is the big blob of Termas for T1 survivability but after that it won't do much. All in all ObSec monsters can be more valuable in the long run.

You have convinced me, i will go for the monster obsec adaption.
What do you think about the psychic powers and the last 15-20 pts tweaking? Is glands/hooks worth it on the warriors since they will probably be hiding backfield or is it bettet with Spore cysts on a fex or maybe glands on mommy? Maybe something else I’ve overlooked?

I play jorm because my whole army is sand nids and i made them like that before hive fleets was a thing, anything other than jorm just feels wrong
Might try a different one sometime but right now i can only manage a few games/year

AG are good to have on the Tervigon, a S8 Sweep profile is really nice.

That might leave enough for synapse on the 2nd Fex, and I’d drop the hooks from the warriors if 5 more pts are needed. Alternatively, you could drop AG from the Warriors since they are backfield duty and put Dermic on the 2nd Carnifex. That would give it a lot more durability for sitting on midfield objectives.




Edit: Behemoth would be a good fleet with minor changes; running the Fexes with AG & 2x CST instead of 2x DS. Just fyi for if Jorm doesn’t work out for you.

Since im going for the obsec on monsters I might as well go for the acidfex drop as well. New list would be:


Tervigon: wl, maw claws, adaptive biology, catalyst.
25 termagants
3 warriors: vc, strangler, ds, boneswords
3 zoanthropes: neuroparasite
Carnifex: hvc, spitters, enhanced senses
Tyrannofex: Acid spray, dermic symbiosis

This list will be stronger against everything but knights i guess?
Is the dermic worth it over glands on mom + voracious on carnifex?

I think AG on the Tervigon and Voracious on the Tfex would be better at 1000 pts. I’d probably even favor it at 2000 since the Tfex is dropping in.
