Advice vs Grey Knights @1k (Game Tomoz!)

Hey Hivers!

My illustrious return to 40k continues tommorow as I will be playing my 4th game of the edition against grey Knights.

I've playtested only at 500pts so far, using a blob of termagants with a maw claw/hs tervigon and a walking Tyrant. Now I'm looking to scale up to 1k.

I have about 4k of bugs and know for a fact he will be tailoring to beat me a bit, so I don't mind trying to hurt him right back.

Which fleet is best suited to battle GKs?

Any auto includes or things to be wary of?

What's your general game plan when you face GKs in Nephilim?

Hello, erm I'm relatively inexperienced but I have played grey knights at 2000pts. Obviously most of their units are psychic so I basically brought a lot of psychic too. Most other factions couldn't harass GK in psychic phase except maybe Thousand Sons.

Psychic scream is useful on zoanthropes as it doesn't need line of sight, still gets the mortal wound benefit of zoanthropes and turns psychic abilities off for the enemy.

If you use a few monsters, then do territorial instincts as between them and your troop units, you should out obsec them.i can't remember if grey knights got armour of Contempt but bare that in mind for your AP

Don't think the mortal wound boosts affects witchfire. It specifically state only smite for that portion.

"Each time this unit manifests the Smite psychic power, add 1 to the number of mortal wounds suffered by the enemy unit for each model in this unit (to a maximum of +3 mortal wounds)."

I haven't played against grey knights all that much. But I'd imagine lots of synapse to spread shadows of the warp and also Kronos might be good against them.

Warriors to shoot the (please do not swear) out of them and then beat them up with S8 from boneswords+AG on the charge. Terminators and strike squad troops only have T4.

Worth sticking to Leviathan for durability or would you go Behemoth or even Kraken for full beat down mode?

GK have a lot of MWs and Nemesis Force Swords (S5 AP-3 2D), so Levi doesn’t do a whole lot (helps vs the dreads). The speed of Kraken will help you hit first, which will probably be more deterministic of the battle.

However, Kronos might make the GK player pull thier hair out. WLT to make all doubles perils (d3+1 MWs) and the fleet power can make them suffer d3 MWs on failed manifests (can happen multiple times per phase).

Kraken for speed and melee ap or Kronos like Pierson said to mess up with their psychic (including their racial secondary ritual)

Defo leaning Kraken so far, here's the list;

Flyrant (Reaper, AG, Paroxysm, Heightened Senses)

Tervigon (Maw Claws, AG, Crushing Claws, Catalyst)

3x Zoanthrope, Smite, Synaptic Lure

5x Warriors w/ Flesh Hooks, AG, dual boneswords, 4x Deathspitters, 1x Venom Cannon

18x Termagant w/ Fleshborer

Happy to get any suggestions especially on psych powers!

Heightened Senses is better on the Tervigon, Tyrant already gets rr1’s and a rr hit from the tail. I’d also go talons on the Tervigon, the Sweep profile can murder units of SM bodies.

Personally, I’d keep the Warriors at 3-mans w/ AG, DBS, DS. That (plus tervigon swap to talons) gives you enough points to bring the term unit to 30.

Thank you very much, would you also drop the flesh hooks and venom Cannons then? Are you suggesting I drop to just 2x 3man warrior units?


I also considered One Step Ahead wl trait but was unsure

To get to 30x Terms you would beed to drop the Flesh Hooks and VC’s. Tervigon should be able to trigger Synaptic Lure for you, so the VC’s aren't quite as mandatory. I’m not a fan of them outside Levi, but maybe they could work well to chip SM bodies in a smaller game. FH depend on terrain and are mostly only good if you use obstacles or ruins that have platforms >5”.

One Step Ahead might not be bad, though Heightened Senses on the Terv or Adaptive Biology on the Flyrant will have more guaranteed impact.
