Tyranid Points Update and Balance Dataslate

The problems I have with how this was handled all stem from internal balance. The problems were specific wargear in many cases, but the nerfs hit the unit as a whole most of the time.

Also nerfs hit units that were already pretty weak (Crone? Why?). But this is the random hamfisted poorly thought out balance I have become used to with GW. Unfortunately.

I knew some stuff was too cheap points wise and the maleceptor needed toning down but they went too far, by far.
I just feel annoyed how GW are pricing poorer people from getting in/staying in the hobby, selling stuff and then within a month its trash rules wise or is obsolete.

Anyway, I keep every model I have ever painted from 4 factions so stuff will come around again eventually... what's done is done, how to move forward...

These points change came literally just before my next crusade started at my gaming club. So I have had to rejig my list and I think it's still OK. I wondered whether anyone thinks the Deathleaper is still any good with alien cunning on it now its 120pts? I play Jormungandr.

Just an afterthought...

The recent changes were a huge nerf to the Reaper of Obliterax. Even though this wasn't always the best idea you were able to yolo a Flyrant forward to eliminate a big threat. Nowadays you cant really afford that as you'll lose your warlord and thus SIs. So if you want to keep this option you kinda have to take a second Tyrant, most probably with TGs - -2 CPs and 300+ points to keep the same level of comfort.

This is something I hate the most in the recent changes - forcing into certain choices and making the game easier for our opponents by painting a huge red "kick me in the butt" sign on our Warlord. Bad move GW, a really bad one.

The only dumb thing is kill the big one. If you remove Imperatives for killing the Warlord they should implement this across all factions, not reverse it in the same update for Necrons.

No more Mont'ka with dead Commander

No more Fate Dice with dead Farseer

No More Luck Dice with dead Troupe Master
Etc

This is literally a targeted nerf, and very tasteless at that. Not even upset about Adaptions being non-adaptable, but losing your rules for an opponent killing a single unit is dumbass level of ignorant.

Now is there really any downside to allying with Nids? You are going to lose that Imperative anyways.

The way I see tyranids working, I personally think it's fair that we get a penalty for a bit, until a new leader takes over. I can envision all the army's thoughts going towards the big hive tyrant, then it suddenly vanishes! Thoughts are going nowhere for a while, there's confusion ... then the neurothrope steps in, and then the army's thoughts flow towards it.
I can see that process taking longer than it takes a human army's 2IC to step in, so maybe punish us for a turn ... but for the rest of the game? Grumble.

Considering they are all telepathically linked and the point of Synapse is to have multiple nodes this seems as least fluffy as you get.

Ethereal dead? Sure

Company Commander or Captain even? Yeah alright.

A generic node in a web of Synapse gone? Who cares? Plot armour does!

I guess the question is.. just how durable can we make a flyrant, and how much offensive power do we have to sacrifice to get there.

I would laugh if GW waits a few months then brings out a supplement that re-releases Doom of Malantai as a Neurothrope warlord; making it the only HQ that can supersede a Tyrant. GW would make a tonne of money and we would get our reaperboi back.

Kraken Tyrant with Chameleonic and Adaptive Biology seems durable enough to survive a few turns of fire, especially with Indomitable Monstrosity.

I think the toughest tyrant we might have is a Leviathan Swarmlord, and I think i will use him as my WL.

Maybe. Fallback and charge is one of our best imperatives. Running it like this isn’t ideal, but it has potential to at least make running a Tyrant viable.

He's always the same, but a regular tyrant needs relics and/or wlts to work properly, he doesn't need anything.

He's almost unkillable with shooting, and in close combat he's tougher than a normal flyrant and quite a serious threat.

Faced one in a mirror at a GT yesterday and barely won by 2 points.

And if he's Leviathan, transhuman 4+ on a T8, combined with the blade parry, combined with an eventual re roll for an invo, he just won't die.

Honestly i think people are severely underestimating him.

I think access to Adaptive Biology does more to help a walking Hive Tyrant's survivability than the +1 Wound and Blade Parry of the Swarmlord when compared to each other, though of course the Swarmlord can also be Catalyst'd to gain the same benefit.
