For the love of the cult codex

I'm a bit late to getting lots of games in with cult, but I am loving this new codex.

The changes to characters and cult ambush means you can get your auras and are less likely to miss charges.

The internal balance feels great. Virtually every unit has a place and none I can think of are laughing stocks to be avoided.

And crossfire... Crossfire is my favorite rule in the codex. It makes the games feel incredibly dynamic. Where you shoot matters. How you position and surround units matters. Every move I make requires foresight and planning for how I need crossfire and exposed to work in the shooting phase.

Win or lose, I'm enjoying the cult codex. Is it the most powerful? No. But it feels like the best to play.

IMO it is the best 9th codex by a long shot, but the issue is timing. 6 months prior and it would have been a nice window of fun, but it was dumped right into the start of the "Terrain is for wusses" codex run of Custodes, Tau, Aeldari (both) and Nids.

These armies dumpster GSC, and AoC removed another chunk.

Lots of fun if you don't play ^ those but a checkers against chess game if you do.

The new art direction of mad max vampires is amazing.

This far in the league I'm in, I've faced dark eldar, two marine flavors, and orks. I can see how playing into overpowered armies would be no fun. For me, the worst loss I took was against space wolves. I still found I had things I could do (focus on positioning and deep striking) even after it was clear which way the game would go.

I got beat 0-3 at a tournament last week but I think it was because of my meta. I lost to Craftworld Eldar. Blood Angels and Salamanders. But all games were close and looking back I could have won every game if I would have done a few things different (I also could have horribly lost if the other player did some things different too so it goes both ways). I took max Genestealers, MSU acolytes (no heavy weapons just flamers), 3 Rockgrinders, 3 Jackal squads, a Ridgrunner and Characters (Patriarch, Magus, Banner, Alphus and Kelermorph). I found that with armor of Contempt GSC has a hard time with killing Marines. I would have shredded the Eldar player but it was a list full of WraithBlades, WraithGuard and WraithLords (all tough with good saves). The Genestealers are great but acolytes without heavy weapons don't do much damage to armor. I tweaked my list to drop some of the Genestealers and load up my Acolytes with flamers and heavy weapons. I don't have enough experience with the army just yet but I fell like the codex is really strong into weak/horde bodies and struggles more with tough armor lists; but they have tricks and enough depth that they can hand with tough/armor lists but you have to build for it.

We have a great deal of stuff into tough stuff. We just don't have enough volume to deal with AoC.
