Forgeworld Tyranid Models - Last Chance

A Warning that the following models are going on last chance at forgeworld:

Stonecrusher Carnifex with Wrecking Ball
Stonecrusher Carnifex with Wrecker Claws
Sky-slashers (winged rippers)
Mieotic Spore Sacks
Twinlinked Devourers.



Note the last two currently don't appear on the Tyranid page itself and went last chance/vanished earlier. HOWEVER they do currently appear on the "Last Chance" page for Forgeworld. So if you want either of them you can still get them.

Very annoyingly there is no date given in the email nor the webpage for when these models will be removed. At best we might assume they've got a week or less and might be a case of "gone when its gone"

So what do people think? Will they make a new carnifex kit with stone crusher options and crisper details just like they did with the warrior kit in 2014 or shelf them for good?

I hope they don't legends the Stonecrusher. I have a couple I kitbashed that I am pretty happy with and would hate for them to just be fieldable as proxy regular C-Fexen.

The rest I am unsurprised to see go. I get the feeling GW has decided to retire Forgeworld resin but are doing it as slowly as possible to avoid enraging everyone who has spent tons of money on them. Lots of Space Marine stuff is converting to plastic it seems. Particular 30k stuff.

At the same time they are selling some on the main GW site. I think they are more re-focusing FW and bringing down the number of kits but also making it potentially more viable for increased investment in the future. However FW has always had a big question mark over how its managed and sometimes it seems that the plan changes on a weekly bases with models and what FW is going to sell. Add into that the fact that the specialist games really took off and they are developed by the FW team so that's likely sapped a lot of their resources.

Interesting take, can you elaborate on the "making it potentially more viable for increased investment in the future" part?

I've noticed spore mine cluster and the red terror are last chance to buy as well. Also both resin I believe, might add to the retiring resin theory.

I really hope this is the beginning of the end for Forgeworld being a separate company. It's ridiculous how cumbersome it was to order in FW models.

If GW is going to increase the accessibility of FW models and the marketing then there's every reason to think that this means FW is going to see sharply increased sales. That means more money being generated by the FW team and products and that means more profits. More profit means more potential for GW management to see reason to invest more money into the FW resin to generate more of that profit.

One thing I do notice is that Age of Sigmar models were mostly gutted from FW. However most of the Gloomspite models were not removed and they were one of the few who actually had some marketing on the GW community sites for their FW models. Meanwhile amazing models like the Magma dragon which both had no marketing and were pushed into the Orruk army which basically was one of the most ignored by GW for a long while - all those models were some of the first to go.

So yep if GW is going to sell FW direct on their site and through stores and all (even if its just post to store) then that means FW might well see more resource allocation in the future.

It should be noted that Finecast and Forgeworld resin are totally different materials. GW is clearly pushing ahead to fully retire Finecast from its line up. This has no impact on Forgeworld resin which is a totally separate material and process. Personally I feel like the GW central changes are perhaps things that were put in place a long while back and they've simply had so many delays over the last 2 years that their inventory is not where they wanted it to be. Ergo that we might have seen way more kits move from fincast to plastic than which have. However they aren't willing to go back on that choice. Plus its always been a huge headache of a material, highly prone to failed castings.

Good points, I just find it interesting that it's happened at the same time.
And also so recently after a new codex, sucks that after this we're left with less models than before.

My thanks, this also reminded me to change the link too since I moved off flickr since they started charging for more than 1K photos in a profile and I wasn't using enough of the social side to make it worth it.
