Is synapse an aura?

I’m a relatively new player, and I just had a match against another newbie playing Craftworld Aeldari.

Apparently the Aeldari have an ability they can use to cancel/negate all auras. We couldn’t decide if this applied just to things like retooling wound rolls of 1 from Primes pushed through synapse, or whether it actually negated synapse and shadow entirely meaning morale checks suddenly applied.

Anyone know the answer?

No. Aura abilities say aura

I think synapse is an aura, so if they are shutting down auras, then you would need to take moral checks.

I am not sure how this works for synaptic link range.

I seem to recall a FAQ or something like this telling that some abilities without the mention of "aura" that were doing everything like auras were to be considered auras nonetheless...? But can't remember where I saw that or to what extend it goes... But maybe i'm wrong too about it or mixing with another thing.

But to follow up on OP's question, the shadow in the warp is marked as an aura in the codex, so in your case it would be shut down for the turn duration. And just above it in the codex is the synapse ability and there is no mention of aura in bracket like SitW. So I would say it's just not an aura and don't get shut down. And the prime's ability targets only one unit, and so is not an aura around it in all cases.

As a bonus mention considering the synaptic imperative, the codex specifically state that they are working similarly to auras, but are not auras and are not affected by abilities/stratagem that affects auras.

There's a definition in the back of the main rulebook:

Aura: A rule that is classified as an aura can affect multiple models or units that meet its criteria and are within a set distance of the model it is on (including that model itself). If a model is within range of multiple auras with the same name, it can only be affected by one of those rules at any one time (pg 202).

On exactly the same codex page Shadow in the Warp is defined as an aura, but Synapse isn't. That's probably intentional so that it can't be shut down by debuff abilities and isn't lost when a synapse unit performs an action.
