Jorm Swarm vs Far Flung Craftworlds

Ok so i just played 2000pts vs Eldar. Had 150 tgants, 3 Tervigons, a Maleceptor & 3 Zoanthropes. Tried Jormungandr for dense cover and switched the adaptive to the pregame move of 6" with tgants when i saw id be starting 1st. Popped the tervigons +2" SI to move 6"+8" besides the advancing on turn 1.

I took stranglehold, Raise Banners and Grind them down.

By end of movement phase i raised 3 objectives and was past mid table and the Tervigons each spawned an extra 10 man squad each for a total of 180 tgants.

The 10 mans blocked out my rear for 3 deep striking falcons, while raising a banner. 2 units of 30 tgants had no targets so they raised banners. And i basically controlled the board.

In my opponents turn 1 he managed to wipe 2 units on a flank completely and bring 1 tervi down to 5 wounds with a combination of fire dragons and 3 shining spears units but in t2 the maleceptor and other tgants just wiped the spears and took 15 primary plus strangle and a 4th raised banner....opponent just conceded at that point.

Glorious. Did he conceed to early though? What about Jormungandr, did you feel you got something out of it?

What i did get out of it is that my opponent really needed to kill gants so his 3 falcons that came down in his t1 with scorpions, fire dragons and hawks can shoot at the tervigons. But to do that his 3 units of shining spears needed to get really close to maximise firepower on the tgants, to do that he needee to get rid of the -1 to hit. So he made his play t1, cane close, almost annihilated 2 units through shooting. However because the tgants made that pre game move and i covered the board well, only the exarch of the fire dragons managed to get range, as they had to drop 9" away from tgants, but the terv was even further back. as he gave the unit extra range i dno how right now, the exarch only shot, hit, wounded and dealt 10 dmg but the tervi survived. Due to shooting most of the tgants the hawks and scorpions failed their rerollable charge. So the only ones that charged were the shining spears into the 2 whittled down units of tgants. They wiped them.

So, due to rhe -1 to hit, shining spears came close and size of the units with pregame move and tervi SI the gants really took board control and got his dragons out of range.

The -1 to hit can be countered 2 ways. 1 is by ignoring dense rules and thats where jorm suffers. 2nd is by coming into the 12" bubble which is where the tervigons and maleceptor want you to be. So by countering it, you fall into my trap if i survive your attack. If you stay back i get -1 to hit, in any scenario aside 1 that the opponent ignores dense, i win.

But shouldn't a mobile Eldar army just run circles and nuke 1-2 units of Gants per turn with shooting and then go for the kill turn 3-4 and wipe you turn 5? Something like the list that tabled stormcoil's nids:

My guess is the opponent rushed to even the table instead of playing for T4. With the limited knowledge of the opposing list, I’d still think generally that Eldar could clear the Obsec Gants by end of T3 while playing cautiously and then catch-up on primary. Going second makes scoring 20+ primary T4/5 not terribly difficult.

I think the swarm list would’ve done great pre-dataslate, but Eldar and SM both can clear gants very well and both are coming out of the dataslate looking pretty good. Not that swarm will be bad, as the board control style is high reward for high difficulty. As a skew list though, it will just run into the paper to it’s rock.

He was in a position where he could not wait till turn 3. By his turn 1, he was trapped in a corner, my models placed in such a way the only place to run to was horizontally to the other side, where from my part everything was identical, 60 tgants and 2 tervis.

Through his shooting he didnt wipe a single unit of tgants. Had he not gone for the charge to wipe them and fire and faded back into his corner, i would have regenerated most of the tgants he killed. I had 2 tervigons, 1 on the left, 1 in middle to respawn the tgants he killed and endless multitude strat. He needed to wipe the 2 units completely.

Yea, but there was no need to try and put Fire dragons so close or charge with hawks or scorpions T1. The play is to ignore the Tervs until the Gant blocks are gone. Fire dragons should have waited until T2 to disembark, and the other chargers go in to finish gant blocks T2.

I’m not saying the list doesn’t work, I think it has a chance to win often. However, the game is kind of a wash as a test since the opponent misplayed pretty heavily from the looks. Now, board control lists are supposed to force bad decisions, so you do have a very successful list from that aspect.

Also, kudos to be willing to move 180 gants around as well, I would go crazy moving 1 horm or devilgant block around haha. Do you find movement trays necessary or are you freehanding all the movement?
