This secondary needs to be talked about. It is the only secondary in the game AFAIK that can give command points.

That is crazy. It is not so good for shooting lists, as you need to kill things in melee.

It really want feeder tendril models. Do anybody have a clean overview of what that is?

You're right, those are the Feeder Tendril models, but that only matters if you're desperate to farm CP from unit champions. You've got a 50/50 chance of getting CP just from killing a character, and unless you're really unlucky, that means you're basically guaranteed to get a point unless you run into... Honestly, is there a faction who runs without characters? Heck, even Armoured Companies come with Tank Commanders!

But yeah, I think this is my new favorite secondary... Though Spore Nodes is a close second!

But from what I can see it is all models with tentacles for faces +haruspects - Broodlord. I wonder if the derma gets it.

This can factor into weather we like genestealers or not. Same with death leapers.

But we need to get the killings from melee, right? So no shooting or ledearship?

Haruspexes don't have the Feeder Tendril keyword. It's... kind of the opposite of a picky eater.

But yes, melee attacks only. Which means no smiting, no shooting, and no impaling on chitin thorns or choking to death with spores, if we want to claim those juicy brains and all of their precious knowledge.

What exactly qualifies as a "unit champion"? Is it just a new way of saying Sgt-like models for any army, or have there been 9E codices with an actual keyword on the Sgt-like model?

It's vague but:

Many units are led by a champion of some kind, such as a Sergeant. Unit champions often have better characteristics and access to different wargear options. Unless noted otherwise, unit champion models have the same points value as other models in their unit.

There is no keyword for them, but basically any unit that gets a 1-off model with any differences that is taken automatically. So a Sergeant or an Exarch is a unit champion but a plasmocyte isn't.

Basically yes.

Each time you kill a character or unit champion in melee you roll D6.
You add 2 to the roll if the kill was made by a unit with Feeder Tendrils keyword.
You add another 2 if the model killed had Character keyword.
If you roll 6 you gain a CP (max 1 per battle round).
Then at the game end:
Get 3 VPs if at least one CP was gained this way.
Get 1 VP per kill, no matter if it was a character or champion.
Get 3 VP if you killed warlord in melee.
