Q: Hive Tyrant with 2 Heavy Cannons

Going over the leaked content it appears we have a new loadout for Hive Tyrant / Flyrant.
As it is written now:
1) We can exchange M.Bonesword for Heavy Venom Cannon / Stranglethorn Cannon;
2) We can exchange M.Sycthing Talons for Heavy Venom Cannon / Stranglethorn Cannon.
3) It says we can't have Heavy Venom Cannon and Stranglethorn Cannon, but it doesn't say we can't take two of the same (HVC/HVC or SC/SC).

This looks too good to be true (HVC/HVC). So good, actually, that I'm considering not using double loadout until the Codex is officially out.
How do you feel about it? Am I the only one guilt tripping?

RAW it's ok. RAI it feels weird as we could never do this before. I wouldn't chop arms off tyrants but I'd say proxy and try it out. If it feels sleezy for your playing situation, then don't play it.

This is legal for now, but will probably get an errata once the book comes out. If they won't let you have a venom cannon and strangethorn cannon than two venom cannons were probably not what the devs intented.

Yeah I would bet money this gets FAQ'd away fast. Maybe not a day 1 FAQ, but I'd expect it to be fast as soon as they notice.

I would say, if this build survives the first big FAQ, it is safe to field, but as things stand, talk with your opponents/TOs to make sure they are not going to pitch a fit. Just because it is something we have never had before doesn't mean it wasn't intentional. GW might be opening it up a little because they took devs and spitters away. Maybe it was a mistake.

I don't mind waiting until the first FAQ to put my nickel down.

They took every weapon you can't find in the kit away - including dual monstrous boneswords even though you could use bonesabre arms for it. 1 HVC in the kit. There is no way 2 HVC is intentional.

Wasnt there a period of time called 4th edition where fexes could have double cannons?
I know the rules in the fex weapons exchange did a good job of clarifying the 1 cannon per model but doesnt that kinda lend to support double cannon tyrants?

I would not do any major changes to models until we see the actual codex at least. Zoanthropes have some weard beta rules wording.

No, it just lends support to GW made a mistake. If they were ok with double cannons why would 2 of the same be fine but 2 different isn’t? Look, if you really want to run two go to town, it’s technically legal. But expect to be sorely disappointed as soon as GW notices and FAQs it.

Technically legal using a codex which hasn't been officially released yet. So that's also worth keeping in mind.

Of course, for casual games, the only limit is what you can convince your opponent to allow...

Most likely the intent was to let you swap out either of the melee weapon options for a cannon, but not both. Likely it never occurred to the writer that you could equip two of the same weapon.

Two of the same, so paired weapons, fits the aesthetic far more than mixed weapons.

I'm leaning towards it being an oversight as well. After all, there are no left-hand cannons on the monster weapons upgrade sprue. But in the off chance that it could be intentional, there is precedence for it in the Harpy and the larger FW organisms, such as Hierodules and phants. The aesthetic is there, at least.

The dual cannons for fexes in 4th was also errataed for them to have one or the other. It was good on paper, but looked really weird on the models and definitely wasn't RAI.

It was never errated. I still have my fex with venom cannon and barbed stranger. I even waited until after the FAQ dropped to build him.

The reason you were able to take two heavy weapons on a fex was because if you took two of the same weapon they became “twin-linked”. This let you re-roll your misses instead of letting you shoot your heavy weapon.
